Hair'Ducation - Protective styles for summer Protective styling is styling your hair so that the ends are tucked away in order to prevent hair damage from the daily combing/brushing and the harsh environmental elements. Protective styles encourage hair growth and are very important for hair length retention. We have come to see various protective styles over the years including braids, cornrows, the weave and even the wig for some people. Given that protective styling is bound to form part of the journey when growing your hair, it would stand to reason that you should carefully consider the kind of protective style you choose in order to avoid damage to your hair. As discussed in my prior post, some forms of braiding/plats/weave styling cause tension to the hair follicles and thus you run the risk of getting tension Alopecia. So, the styling you choose should have the least tention to your roots. All the protective styles shown on this picture only involve your natural African Hair. It's flat twists or African plats without using fiber. It looks neat, protects the hair ends from being damaged while providing some length retention as well. You can take it down easily for your weekly hair wash, conditioning and hair nourishing treatments. These hair styles on the picture are specifically without fibre because often the hair is damaged by the fibre used when doing protective styles. In some cases you even see you hair and the roots on the fibre when you take down the protective style. African Summers are already so hot. Most of us don't want hair touch our back or covering our ears. We want to feel the breeze on our scalp and be able to take a cooling dip in the pool every now and then. So ditch the synthetic fibre this summer and do a natural African Hair protective style. #flattwists #summerprotectivestyle #AfricanHair #NaturalHair #wappywednesday
