Then, out of nowhere, she exploded. “WHAT IF I WANT TO BE THE SELFISH ONE FOR ONCE?”

Iida had nothing to say to that.

Kamui Woods stood over Muscular, staring down at him for a few seconds before lifting his gaze to Dabi. “Illegal quirk use? Really?”

Dabi shrugged, still trying to shake off his earlier thoughts and the lightness in his head, seeming to settle for now. He managed what he hoped was a halfway decent, slightly cocky smile. “What’re you gonna do, arrest me?”

“You’d better fucking listen to me, Bakugou.”

The sudden shock of how forceful her words were combined with the fact that she swore brought their argument to a standstill. Ponytail was still glaring at him, but Katsuki’s own angry expression had faded in surprise. She stood, shoulders squared before him, daring him to argue.

And the sun shone down over it all—the fake city and its surroundings, smashed to pieces like some sort of abstract art form. In the middle of the quiet street, the only one of his teammates still standing, Katsuki stared blankly at the exit gate. They had won, sure, but he hadn’t.

Katsuki walked out of the arena alone.
