Wang Jun, oil and acrylic on canvas
Abandoned Thoughts No. 7, 2007
Abandoned Thoughts No. 9, 2007
Sudden Beam of Light, 2007
Wang Jun explores his abandoned thoughts in this three part series. The mesh nest at the low center of the painting represents his reflection on society as a whole. The figure who stands alone is isolated, as if on an island. In Sudden Beam of Light, Wang Jun explains the process of believing, in a sudden moment, that there is hope after all to overcome the chaos and isolation of modern society. He later reveals that there never was any hope at all, and the figure’s rescue was an illusion, like a beam of light.
