Is that how you know you've been blocked? You can't reblog things?

It’s the main way most people find out, yes. When you block someone, they can’t reblog from you and can’t Follow you or send you messages/asks unless they’re on anon. If they were already following you, your name drops off their Following list and your posts stop appearing on their dash. I’m iffy on whether they can reblog a post you made from someone else, but I believe not.

Yep! It took some trial and error before it got off the ground in the form it’s known today, but that was the inciting incident.

Sadly no. I got them into my basket and hit the order-now button and the site, which had been crashing the whole time, crashed again :/ I might try making my own if I can get hold of the ingredients list. I can’t imagine most of them are difficult, but we’ve been discussing how one might make palatable cranberry pringles. I think there must be some citrus elements involved.

I have purchased exercise machines in the past. But since I hate exercise they ended up being expensive clothes horses. May you have better results!

I hate running but I hate all other exercise more, and I will run if I have easy access. My building technically has a gym but it’s quite small and I get weirded out working out in quarters quite that close to my neighbors, and this way I think I actually will run more.

I mean, confirmation wasn’t really voluntary :D I’m sure if I didn’t want to be confirmed I wouldn’t have been forced into it, but all my friends were doing it and I didn’t give a shit one way or another about religion, so I might as well.

Dearborn, if I fart under the blankets, will sometimes leave in disgust, but she usually isn’t bothered. Polk, if I fart, will kick me in the nearest body part. :D

Two words: tin foil. Shove a bit in the holes then put the candles in. That should help the candles stay put as well as protect the wood.

A couple of people suggested this and I did wrap the bottoms in foil to keep them upright, but I’m not sure I could really put foil into the holes in a way that’s...like, possible because of physics? But I’m going to look into getting some metal cups that would fit into them.

I love all of this perspective on Judaism! I've been deeply enmeshed in the Reform movement my whole life - parents are both Reform rabbis, I went to Jewish summer camp, and now work at a Reform temple, and I absolutely identify with all of this! Well, except the kreplach; I'm a vegetarian :P

Well, I’m glad I’m mostly getting it right!

See, I was wondering about that, but I don’t eat many pork products on a regular basis and I realized, in reality, I eat bacon maybe five, six times a year? It’s too much of a pain to cook, so I mostly eat it when my parents make it.

AND I LOVE ESTHER TOO. We watched Esther last night (sorry the link says it’s a bible movie) with Crazy Emo Boy Ahasuerus and Holy Shit That’s Jurgen Prochnow As *noisemaker rattles*. It’s a weirdly satisfying movie. 

My favorite part of the story of Esther is that she solves most of her problems with dinner. Can relate.

Seconding support for heated mattress pads. They're great, I had one a few years ago, and I'd turn it on to heat while I got ready for bed, then when I climbed into a newly-toasty bed, I'd just turn it back off (unless it was mega cold and I was getting drafts through the mattress, then it stayed on at a low setting to maintain temps).

Speaking as a person who accepts said proposals... if they liked it enough to accept you, they aren't going to care if you have to be reminded of topic. I've had more than a few people go "right... what did I say I was doing?" or "Can you email me my write up again?" Of course, when I send out the acceptance letters, I do include the workshop title, so hopefully you named your session evocatively.

Well, and I know definitely what my topic was, it’s just there was one part where they were like “What are the objectives of this session” and I gave them a four point list, and now I only know what two of the points were :D But yes hopefully they will include a copy of my form with my formal acceptance.

I remember reading somewhere that there was a casket that came with shelves (or you built it with shelves) so that until it was needed for a body, you would stand it up on one end and use it as a bookshelf. I've always been more fascinated with the Catholic religious orders whose initiates put mattresses on top of coffins and slept that way.

So I hear. I’m sure it’s a net gain -- there are probably negative environmental impacts to the smell -- but I’m sad that one of those unique only-in-Chicago aspects of life downtown will be going away. Though it will be funny to be able to say to the younger generation someday, “Ah yes....the city...it used to smell like chocolate....”

I wish I could be bothered to add a zip and shoulder straps to a tote bag and turn it into the worst backpack ever. (Ignore me, I've been in this sort of mood for about 4 days now and started pissing myself off 3 and a half ago O.O )

Aw, I hope you get out of your funk soon! But see, that’s the thing -- if you add shoulder straps (or even better, a messenger-style chest strap) and a zip top, you have fixed what was wrong with the tote bag:

1. Shit could and did fall out of it because the top didn’t close securely 2. The handles were inconvenient for carrying long distances and it took up a free hand (I don’t like to have my hands full when walking). 

I still wouldn’t need like ten of them, but I would accept that object as a perfectly useful bag; especially if it had a cool design on it, that might be quite novel. The conflict for me came into the fact that even after I explained exactly why I couldn’t use tote bags, Mum still kept sending them because SHE found them so useful, how could I NOT?   

Mum tends to get a little fixated on an idea sometimes.

See, that’s the thing though, the thrift box postage is free (paid by the thrift shop) and you just print out a label and leave it for the postman. And I’m sending a bunch of stuff at once, which ameliorates the packaging cost. 

So if I send them to other people, in individual packages for which I have to go to the post office and pay postage, at this point? A gift I did not want and explicitly told people not to send me is now costing me money and time.

..there's.. hardly anyone there??? It's free?! and like- empty?  Our Provincial Museum Queues around the block on the 'free day' every year!

Well, there are a lot of extenuating circumstances -- mostly that it was cold and rainy, I think, but also that the Field has multiple free days each month, usually, and it’s....it’s not the sexiest of Chicago’s museums, not even the sexiest of our science museums (that would be the Museum of Science and Industry). The Field really struggles with what it is and what it wants to project as its image. A result is that attendance tends to be on the sparse side. 

My parents love it, though. I sent mum a photo of the star sapphire from the gem room captioned “I’m in your favorite gallery!” and she was like YEAH YOU ARE!

Snag the rest and sell it on eBay. That stuff is highly collectible and people WILL PAY for the old stuff because the new stuff sucks. Fridge-to-oven my behind. Only Classic Corning/Pyrex will do that and not break.

I thought about it, but in the spirit of the Free Stuff Table, if there a new haul of cool stuff, I try to leave at least some of it for other people. This time I decided I’d leave the rest there and if it was still there at 8 this morning I’d grab it, but it was gone, so someone else wanted some too, which is nice.

trust me when I say cookies are borderline dark magic. (I'd know, my Mum's a cookie sorcerer) There's a correlation where the less delicate the ingredients the more stable the incantation. Oatmeal is pretty sturdy.
