This is "Bethnal Green" by Walter Steggles from 1928. Sadly, it is only known from this press cutting image but, thankfully, this one is in colour! St Andrew's Church on Viaduct Street is the building in the background with St Andrew's Inststute & Vicarage to the left nearer the viewer. Wally sketched the view on the inside, rear cover of a Bethnal Green Men's Institute exhibition catalogue as you'll see & I believe that his raised viewpoint was due to the fact that he made his sketch from the platform at Bethnal Green Station at Three Colts Lane whilst he was returning home to Chadwell Heath having just visited the exhibition in Bethnal Green Museum. St Andrew's Church was demolished in 1958. The black & white photo was taken just before demolition took place & it is courtesy of the National Monuments Archives. #waltersteggles #eastlondongroup #bethnalgreen #lostchurch https://www.instagram.com/p/CLTv4t_Ho3W/?igshid=6kg2k69am47x
