AND THEY WERE ROOMMATES

What a sad existence David must think Walter lives. Lives. Something Walter probably didn’t even view his own existence as. He was created to serve. Nothing else and wanting anything more was a fallacy. A straight affront to his programming. That didn’t mean he didn’t feel. As much as he knew it went against everything, he couldn’t ignore that there was moments that he felt he was doing something wrong. Brushing hair from Daniel’s eyes despite the fact she’d been sleeping. What had that been? Feeling was a human aspect. He was not human. He never would be. He was not David, he was not malfunctioning. 

You could be loved.

What a strange concept. Is that something he wanted? No. Want was a part of being human. He was not allowed to want. What about the bits of wiring and scraps he’d bent into pretty shapes and sculptures in his ‘room’ on the ship? What about the plants he was extra diligent to watch grow? Where did those line up in his programming?

She’s sitting there, smiling and wide-eyed at the fact he just said the most cheesiest thing to her. She’s also surprised at the fact… it’s actually worked on her. (Should she be though? Really, if she’s honest with herself?)

Several months in all reality, to a being like her at least, was drops in an endless ocean. But to a human - to live them out like one, like she’d have to due to her bindings to this mortal facade she has? It felt like an eternity. An agonizingly long one. And, of course, there’s the fear that whatever can go wrong, will. Murphy’s law always applied. Damn that law.

“No,” her voice echoes the sadness on her face as she plays with her fingers, unused to how short and small her hands were, “I guess it’s not unlike all the rest’a the missions you go on. But...”

The difference was, she’d become quite attached to him in a complicated flurry of emotions. Not enough to claim she loved him like she did Fearmonger, but enough to where she’d hate to see him go and suffer an extreme loss should his time sever. A frown crosses her face, but she tries to make herself smile in remembering how much good he’s been in her life.
