the day is finally here--he uploads to chatter the prizes that his contestants won for the 2018 wallace cup! 

      ❝hello from alola!❞ he declares. ❝as you all know, the wonderful kamui, antarcticite and lucas adams have won our most recent wallace cup in spectacular fashion. for their prizes, they shall receive pokémon based on the content of their performances. after a few days of thinking, i have decided upon their rewards. without further ado, i shall reveal them to you know!❞

      ❝kamui, first in place, first to receive: you displayed a dynamic and elegant sense of both coolness and beauty in your performances that would make any experienced coordinator proud. as you are in first place, you will receive two pokémon. in honor of your deep understanding of multiple categories, i offer you a larvesta. as larvesta ages, it will grow into a pokémon that harnesses both beautiful and clever moves to fullest effect. but as well as an honor, i also offer you a challenge. it would be all too easy to give you a gardevoir, or a milotic, or any other pokémon commonly associated with beauty--such simplistic choices would insult your skill. instead, i will bestow upon you an alolan grimer, a pokémon that one would be hard-pressed for a coordinator to raise, with the full faith that you with your creativity can transform it into a contest star.❞

      ❝antarcticite, your strategic aptitude and eye for the dark and unusual is second to none, befitting not only an experienced and highly innovative top coordinator but also a member of the pokémon league. as such, i will gift you a gligar. this pokémon is known not only for the dark roles that it often plays in performances, but also for its great utility as both a defender and attacker on the battlefield. i trust that you can put its evolved form to perfect use in both your performances and in traditional battle. bond with it well, and there is truly no limit to what you and gligar can do.❞

      ❝and finally, lucas, in honor of your third place win, i present to you a mimikyu. your eye for both the serious and the comical is one that few can harness--most people are gifted only at using one or the other, but you came through with both. mimikyu, likewise, is a pokémon of both great fun and great danger: it may seem silly on the outside, but on the inside lies a serious fighter who can decimate opponents with its ability to freely set up. you have achieved so much as a champion and as a person, and it is clear that yet greater things are in your future. i hope you accomplish much more with mimikyu by your side.❞

the time is here. the time is now. on a waterfall cast by his gyarados, a pillar wreathed in vines from his lurantis’ grass knot, he rises slowly from the water into the air as the contest theme plays behind him. he’s perfectly dry, surrounded by the glow of milotic’s aqua ring bubble that encases him. the waterfall wave washes ashore on a platform rising in the middle of the pool and he steps down; the aqua ring follows him, outlining his exact form and giving him a blue glow as he moves and the contest theme dims in volume. he turns to address the crowd, and as he opens his mouth to speak, the aqua ring shines even brighter. behind him, his gyarados and milotic’s necks rise out of the water and bow together in the shape of a heart, with the tiny lurantis ballerina posing with one foot on each of their heads: two water-types and one alolan pokémon to say farewell to this watery alolan contest.

❝ladies and gentlemen, the moment you’ve all been waiting for has arrived!❞ he said. ❝the scores have been finalized, and now it’s time to announce the recipients of this year’s  prizes! please direct your attention to a screen to see once again what our three winners and three honorable mentions will take home.❞

on cue, the screens to either side of him show the prizes. next to each is a blank space for the name of the person who would be taking that prize home.

❝now, who will be taking home these wondrous gifts? without further ado…❞

there’s a drumroll on the speakers, and the waves roll accordingly. the shining ring around wallace’s form disappears, allowing the names of the winners to take center stage, as this was their moment, not his. with a sweep of his arm he gestures to the board--right on cue, underneath each prize heading, the names and point values of each contestant appear in showers of dark and light blue sparks. the overall rankings of the battle segment also appear on the side.

❝a warm congratulations to all of you for the beautiful performances you have gifted me with, but most of all to our six prize winners: kamui, antarcticite, lucas, daisy, keith and zoey. you in particular have shown great skill, and great potential to reach even more impressive heights. we here at the hano grand resort are blessed to be in the company of such accomplished coordinators--in particular, our winner. kamui, you have emerged among all the competitors here this year as the most distinguished onstage, and for that i will honor you with the AQUA RIBBON that you deserve!❞

a closed box that supposedly contains the ribbon drifts out of the water inside yet another aqua ring, an ornate white encasement inlaid with solid gold. it hovers in the air for all the crowd to admire, then makes its way into wallace’s outstretched hands. with a radiant smile he shakes kamui’s hand and pulls her into a hug, then opens the box to reveal the most important prize that she would take home today.

❝WHAT?❞

the ribbon. it’s gone. and whoever took it left a bright blue lipstick kiss on the box’s side--mocking INSOLENCE, audacity the likes of which only one person he knew would dare show him--

SAWYER. SAWYER HARRIS.

sawyer harris, reborn region ace, had made off with the wallace cup ribbon behind his back…! he should’ve known something was too good to be true when the ruffian refused to cause trouble. he’d been saving it, wallace thinks, for the moment when it truly mattered, for a stunt that would get attention without completely risking sawyer’s international reputation. the empty ribbon case, the lipstick on the side, and wallace’s shocked expression would bring on a flood of mockery and memes for years to come, instead of horrified anger and shock at the body of a murdered contestant. he should have known far ahead that this would be the caliber of sawyer’s troublemaking--perhaps he is reading too much into this, but his mind, so precise in its deductive reasoning yet so blinded by his bias, can think of nothing else. that sneaky son of a…!

he isn’t gonna lie, he thought it was harley at first, but he knows his ex well enough to know that he doesn’t use that shade of lipstick.

slowly he lowers the empty case, and once again he flashes his picture-perfect smile. 

❝…so sorry about that.❞ he says, and places a hand on kamui’s  shoulder. ❝i’ll have a new one made for you shortly. but in the end, it’s only a ribbon. whether you have it in your hand or not does not change anything about what you achieved.❞

he turns to address the crowd once again. ❝and that, ladies and gentlemen, is all. thank you from the bottom of my heart for attending and participating--i declare this year’s wallace cup to be officially CONCLUDED!❞

the contest theme changes its tune and gets louder as he steps out onto thin air, hands behind his back and one leg extended in front of him. a waterfall rises to catch him as he falls. another aqua ring blooms from the pillar and surrounds him in a glowing orb as he descends into the pool and waves to the cheering crowd. with one final shock to his nerves the contest ends, and when he swims backstage he slumps against the wall, exhausted.

thank the gods that was over with.

didn’t see that coming, did you? anyway, that’s a wrap--the wallace cup is now COMPLETE! if you have the time, i’d love if you could fill out this feedback form that i wrote, since it’s for me to know what i did well and also how i can improve. also, for reference, you may continue wallace cup threads + answering wallace cup related asks for as long as you like god knows i still have a few things i need to write myself. the event may be over on paper, but it will always go on in our hearts. XD

it’s been a wonderful threeish months with you all and i’m so happy that you’ve all decided to attend. thank you to everyone who signed up--as someone who puts her entire heart and soul into her contests, it means a lot to me that so many of you are interested. i’m so proud of all of you and grateful to you for the hard work you put in, no matter what the result. hats off to you…or should i say VREPIT SA? you all rocked hard and it showed!

A million ideas later.

In a moment of (relative) downtime, you spot a certain someone. It’s that journalist that approached you during the appeal round, again accompanied by her Furfrou. When her gaze falls on you, a pleasant smile lights up her face, and she begins to make her way over.

“Bonjour~!”

Whether or not you turned down her request for an interview last time, it’s clear she’s got more questions, if you’ll entertain her curiosity.

“Congratulations mon ami(e)! How are you feeling right now about this competition?”

“Are you more or less confident about the battle round, versus the appeal round? Why is that, exactly?”

“Who’s your competition for this round? Did you watch their appeal, and if so what did you think of it? How are you feeling about being matched against them?”

“What about the field you’ll be battling on? Is it one that you were hoping for, and do you have any ideas about how you’ll use it to your advantage-you don’t have to tell us your secrets, of course!”

“Which contest type will your battle fall under, and how are you feeling about that?”

“What Pokémon are you borrowing from the other trainers in your group, and why did you select it? How is training with them going?”

“Do you have any ideas of who you’re going to pair your borrowed Pokémon with for this battle? Has anything made you decide against using a specific Pokémon, and why?”

“How confident are you feeling overall about this competition? Do you think you’ll be able to earn enough points this round to come out on top?”

“On a side note…tell us about how your downtime goes! Are you constantly preparing, or taking some time to soak in the Alolan sun (and moon)? This seems like a fairly stressful competition, so what are you doing to decompress? What about your Pokémon?”

“C’mon people. Sign it.” 

“I’m thinking of entering this year’s Wallace Cup. I’d be happy to enter a contest that fits more of my style (anime style), but I’ve never done it to the sync of music. I feel that’s a bit of a distraction from the performance.”

‘Cool’ was never really his style, As much as he enjoyed pretending he was. ‘Cool’ was not a good fit for these pokemon he’d been tasked with... He was more used to the beauty and the aesthetic of contests, not playing to peoples highly biased definition of ‘cool’.

...But that didn’t mean he wasn’t about to try. 

Striding out with either pokemon beside him, he let the cape of his jacket billow out behind him, caught by the wind blowing in off the sea. Flora, the Lurantis, strode to his left, a bit of swagger in her step, the Grassium-Z she wore around her neck dangling loosely- intentionally done to make it easy to pull off with the creatures scythe-like hands. On his right walked Silvally, Head held high with plumage glowing a bright orange- Ground type memory. Both pokemon were groomed to perfection, as Gladion expected, not a single hair or petal out of place and coats glistening in the Alolan sun.

The stage was set, open sand around them as they took their places in the dead center of the arena... and then the music picked up, a grand crescendo accompanied by nigh ritualistic chanting as Gladions left hand hand- And Floras scythes- rose with it. The right hand rose along with the next set of Lyrics, Silvally raising its head and readying itself, widening its stance...

The Music rose further, only to suddenly come crashing down, Gladions hands along with it, and two things happened in that moment. Flora darted to her right, away from Gladion and Silvally, and Silvally brought its front claws down, using Rock slide down into the earth to create pillars that built up under Gladions feet, tossing him into the air and giving him enough height to perform a small back flip, landing on the pillar in time with the chanting in what could only be described as a Superhero pose, a rush of sand bursting out from under his feet. He quickly stood, thrusting his hand into the air as Silvally created another two pillars, each jutting out behind Gladion in an ‘X’ Shape, and once more as Gladion thrust his hand out to the side, several Arches being created that connected them all together. The next beat had Gladion crossing his arms in front of his face, and casting them down at his sides, a couple support pillars jutting out of the ‘main’ one and into the ground below.

Gladion smirked, turning his hand over and arching his fingers like a claw as he slashed upwards, Silvally using Multi-attack to carve intricate divots into the pillars as it ran up to join its trainer on the center pillar. Flora, meanwhile was quickly climbing the pillars and placing down Leech seeds as she went, the two pokemon seeming to dance in an odd harmony before the Lurantis placed herself at the tip of one of the pillars in the back, dropping one last seed into a deep divot Silvally had created. As the music seemed to come to a break down, Lurantis’ eyes glowed brightly as she started using Synthesis to draw on the life force of the ocean and palm trees behind them, as well as the blazing Alolan sun. Drawing what life force she could, she channeled it into the seed at her feet. The music quieted, Vines growing out of the leech seeds and slowly snaking their way down the divots, filling every nook and cranny they could, the vines seeming to glow brightly from how much Flora was putting into it. The vines even slithered up and grabbed Gladion around the ankles and wrists- Lurantis using Grass Knot, clearly- tying him to the pillar as the whole structure seemed to twist, and come alive. He knew this would happen though, and as soon as he was tied down, he pulled on his restraints, feigning panic as Silvally rushed up, using Iron head on the parts of the pillar that bound Gladion to the structure to free its trainer trainer. As the music picked up again, the structure holding Gladion started to collapse, and Gladion quickly mounted Silvally’s back, the pokemon leaping up high into the air and coming down hard with Giga Impact, enough to make a small crater and kick up a lot of swirling sand.

Time for the finale. As Lurantis started to dance atop the pillars to the music, Gladion circled his fist in the air once, specifically his left hand which housed his Z-ring. once again in the center of the ring, Gladion took point, striking a rather intense pose as he tapped the Grassium-Z mounted on his Z ring, Lurantis almost mimicking his movements one to one as he performed the Grass Z-dance... and as Lurantis became filled with Z-power, the entire set piece they created sprung to life as Giga drain became Bloom Doom, Sucking the energy out of some nearby grass and palm trees and quickly returning it to them as plants cascaded down the rock structures, blooming flowers and grass as the Z-energy coursed down, a large lotus flower blooming at Lurantis’ feet to top off the whole spectacle.
