In my experience proper installation of water proofing on a balcony starts with selecting the right product. Most failures are due to installation of products that are not designed for low slope as balconies. This is why we have been installing and using @plideksystemsinc for the last 18 yrs. The application you see in this photo is the base coat. First a metal lathe is mechanically fastened to the plywood substrate. Then a Portland cement with a acrylic modifier is troweled over the lathe. The second most common failure is the improper installation of the flashing. The metal flashing ties the deck to the wall. As you can see in the photos we removed about 8" of siding to allow the application of the flashings. Also, removed the door so a door pan could be installed which ties into the deck to wall flashing. The next step is to slope the deck. The set of photos will describe the importance of sloping the deck and the process. #crcbuilders #waterproofing #deckcoatings #plideksystems #balcony #walkingdeck #basecoat (at Fairfield, California)
