"THE BIG RACE IN PICTURES," Vancouver Sun. May 18, 1933. Page 15. --- Keen contests in every division featured the 5th Annual Vancou-ver Sun Walking Marathon Wednesday afternoon.
Here are some of the "shots" taken by The Sun camera man during the course of the race.
Top - A Class for boys under 17 years of age, getting away from the starting line on Beatty Street opposite The Sun Office.
Tens of thousands of spectators lined the routes to and from Stan-ley Park.
Centre left - Crawford Vogler, 9, the youngest boy in the race. Crawford did not win but he completed the 11-mile jaunt in good condition - didn't even complain of sore feet.
Centre - Fred Barry, 14, of 15 Kingsway, winner of Class A.
Centre, right - Howard Robinson who finished second to Norman Walton, winner of Class B for men 17 to 40. Robinson's time was 1.29.6, while the winner's was 1.27.25
Lower, left - Walter Mason, Vancouver Walking Club entry, winner of Class D for men 40 to 65. Mr. Masen's time was 1.39.30.
Lower, right - H. T. Skelley, 1616 West Ninth Avenue, who won Class F for men over 65, in 1.57.40.CLASS
