How did you decide who would be who in the breakfast club au? everyone fits their role so well so i was wondering if you spent a lot of time on it or just picked your faves and made them fit
So i love the breakfast club, its one of my favorite movies ever.
There is some kickass art by sevenswells with a few of the Haikyuu characters in the original outfits. The thing is... I can’t remember if I saw that art before or after I started writing it. I just know that I was at work, as usual, when I started to think about it in earnest.
I knew I wanted Bokuto and Akaashi to be the jock and the basket case, though I used outsider as the description in my fic because I dislike the connotations of basket case.
Since one of the titles is Princess it was pretty damn simple to make that Oikawa and since the Criminal is who the Princess ends up with in the film, Iwaizumi became that part.
Kuroo became the Brain because there was no one else I wanted to put in that place. Which is how Kenma got added in as a homage to Sixteen Candles. Which if you have never seen it, involves a girl having her entire family forget her birthday. Also Kenma was added because it always upset me that the Brain was pretty much a fifth wheel. Everyone else got to have kisses and he got to punch his own shoulder because he wrote a kickass essay. Which is fine, but at the same time I always thought he deserved more.
Everything else was me trying to find a way to have them match these archetypes while still creating an original story. Not just a copy of the movie itself. I’m really glad that everyone translated well and fit their chosen roles.
