Waipu Caves
This is Waipu, a popular beach on the east coast of NZ.
On a warm, sunny day hundreds of people flood the beach and it’s kind of not much fun…
But on days like this, cold and windy with heavy, dark clouds threatening to loose a torrent down on us all, it’s beautiful.
And it’s beautiful being there.
There is, to the right, little river that runs through the forest and meets the ea. This has always been my favourite part of the beach.
Fresh water, rock pools, shade and interesting shells. I spent most of my time in the little river, the salt water coming in warped waves to meet me, my hands and feet cold with the water. It was a nice experience.

The first break of light. Dawn is a magical time at the Cove.
