Sydney Siege
It's no secret I was in Sydney these past few months. And I actually have been to the Lindt cafe many a times while I was there. Needless to say the whole hostage situation was not only saddening but just plain scary for me, as I watched in unfold on CNN.
I started to think "Oh no, now they are going to go crazy on Muslims all over again." Living in a post 9/11 era, usually that's what many Muslims think, when something like this happen. The only thing we want to say is "don't worry not all of us are like that." Many a times the complete opposite happens, and most of us stay quiet, not because we agree, but simply because we are afraid to speak out.
What the people of Sydney have proven with their actions were not only incredible but so inspiring. Personally, I knew there is a large population of Muslims in Sydney, and they are very proud to be Muslim. The twitter campaign that followed in helping Muslims safely travel in the city was awe-inspiring.
I"m so proud to have been a part of that atmosphere while I was there. And I want to thank the people and community of Sydney for showing us all how it should be done. We should not shun a community based on an individuals' choices and opinions. So thank you to all the inhabitants of Sydney, Australia, we definitely stand by you.
News alert
This Sydney hostage situation is weird. And scary. Especially because I've had coffee there many a times. Sending prayers and good thoughts to Sydney and all involved

7 Days of Packing
Seven days until I catch my 6:00 AM flight to Washington, DC from Dallas, Texas, and I've been packing all week long. I never realized how hard it is to pack your entire life into a suitcase for an entire semester. It's officially starting to feel like an Archer semester. Moving to Capitol Hill with forty other strangers and living with about sixteen of them under one roof should prove to be an interesting journey! Currently I've been preoccupied with making lists for packing, buying, unpacking, and all sorts of lists that are supposed to make my move more efficient. Moving out of the house for the first time and that too to a complete different world is a bit overwhelming, but I'm pretty sure this will prove to be one of the most memorable semesters in my undergraduate experience.
Lucky for me, my parents and siblings are flying in a week early with me to help me set up and buy everything I need before I move into the Archer house officially. So this semester my blog will officially turn into the inner thoughts and musing of a working DC intern, so y'all can follow me as I govern through life in our Nation's capitol and figure it all out. Of course if there are any sightings or run ins with my friend Barack Obama I will also let you all know through this medium. So here's to a new semester and life of a DC intern! Cheers!
This really is not good. I'm stuck in the house due to the icemageddon and I still somehow find things to keep me from studying. It's safe to say I literally am done giving any shitz about my Monday final. And I just want it to be Thursday so I can say I'm officially done with this terrible horrible no good very bad semester.
HURCA 2013
Presented and defended my Honors Thesis today. I'm so glad it's over I honestly drank a whole water bottle before my presentation because I was so nervous! The judges literally HAMMERED me with questions but then afterwards they all congratulated me on a job well done. Someone even mentioned I was the best of the night and the judges all rushed to shake my hand afterwards! Now if I could get off the bed and study for my human anatomy exams on Monday....
