home/family life. we really hear like … nothing, about tetsuo’s home situation. we just know he has a mother, because they bring up talking to her at one point. all we know is she’s not his real mother. in the scene with kaneda going through tetsuo’s memories you see tetsuo being taken to a boy’s home, then you see a panel after of a few women from little tetsuo’s pov, one saying, “he cries and he cries ‘til i can’t stand it. it’s not as though he were my real child.” ( x ) there’s also one with, “why won’t daddy come and see me?” ( x ) which infers strained family life with his adoptive family. they’re both really tiny panels on a giant page full of a ton of memories so they’re hard to miss. so… what was it like? was he in and out of foster care for a while? why did his mother adopt him? did they end up getting along in time? i think it’s unlikely, given tetsuo’s mindset/behavior, the fact he’s a junkie, and pretty much in a school for juvenile delinquents.
