Lord, a new week begins. And the first question of the Bible is Your first question to us: "Where are you?" The first man replied, "I was hiding" (Genesis 3:9-10). This week, we don't want to hide. Cause us not to hide behind fear, behind to-do lists, behind worry, behind relentless busy. Cause us not to hide behind food, behind masks, behind all The Numbing Things -- because we want The Awaking Things.
This week, make this where we are: Hidden only in You. When we are hidden in You, we can be fully transparent, fully seen, fully loved. Simply, this week, moment by moment: Hidden in You, Keeping With You. Simply: Present to Your Presence. We only are unhidden, unmasked, unafraid, unbound when we are where You are.

I have to seek God beauty. Because isn't my internal circuitry wired to seek out something worthy of worship? Every moment I live, I live bowed to something. And if I don't see God, I'll bow down before something else.
Ladies, lots of you love Ann Voskamp. I’m not trying to rain on that parade. I do, however, want to disagree with Ann on her use of the above verse.
Recently, Ann posted the above image of John 13:7 and then said:
Hey Soul? Yeah, the week looks big & hard & a bit impossible. “Jesus replied, ’You don’t understand now what I am doing, but someday you will.‘“Jn13:7
When it looks overwhelming, understand that He stands in the midst doing something today that you’ll understand someday. When it’s hard to understand His ways, stand on His promises.
When it’s hard to trace His hand — trust His heart. Trust: this week is unfolding in His hands, He’s got you, He’s got a plan, He understands you, upholds you, and underneath everything today — are His everlasting arms. #NoFearMonday #GodsGotIt #PreachingGospeltoMyself
Context Is Everything
Let me be clear, I’m not saying everything Ann wrote (above) is wrong. What I am saying is you can’t get that message from this verse. This verse is teaches us something deep and profound, but it has nothing to do with how Ann is using it.
In John 13:7, Jesus is celebrating the Passover meal with his disciples for the last time (the Last Supper). He gets up, wraps himself with a towel, and begins to wash the disciples feet.
In verses 6-8 John writes:
6 So He came to Simon Peter. He *said to Him, “Lord, do You wash my feet?” 7 Jesus answered and said to him, “What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand hereafter.” 8 Peter *said to Him, “Never shall You wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with Me.” - John 13:6-8 (NASB)
Peter didn’t understand why the Son of God was acting like a lowly servant and washing his disgusting feet. In reply Jesus said, "What I do you do not realize now, but you will understand hereafter." In other words, 'Peter you don't understand why I am washing your feet but in the next 24-72 hours you will.'
In this verse, Jesus is not talking to you or me about His plan for our lives. Jesus, instead, was telling Peter that the character of the Son was like that of a servant. Peter didn't understand why Jesus was doing this but He soon would. Jesus was modeling for the disciples (and us) the heart of a servant even in His time of greatest need, in the face of imminent suffering and death.

This then is the real Gospel that you should be speaking to yourself. If you have been cleansed by the blood of Christ, then you belong to Him and the Father. You have been redeemed. You are clothed in the righteousness of Christ. This week may be challenging but you can face anything, through the power of the Holy Spirit who dwells within you.
Be more like Christ. Put the needs of others first even when things aren't going right in your life. Continue to submit to the Father even when He allows you to suffer. Be willing to endure anything for the sake of your Savior who has endured more pain and suffering than you will ever imagine. Not so you can have a stress-free week, but so that you can have a relationship with your Creator.
