LIKE MOTHER, LIKE DAUGHTER.
( @vonlorde ) for Leni, who deserves the entire universe (but who gets my crappy edits instead bc there’s no way I have enough wrapping paper for the universe) !
“I really hate that man.” / kit to helga
CLEARING OUT MY INBOX <3 @vonlorde
A sigh. “ He means well, you know that, ” Helga reminds the other, optimistic even when she desperately wants to agree with Kit. Because she is correct ; Haymitch is far from the most likable VFD member she has set eyes on, and if it weren’t for the fact that her cottage serves as a safe house Helga would be reluctant to allow him to cross the threshold. But does she feel hatred towards the drunkard ? No. Irritation & the desire to snatch every CORRUPTING bottle away from him ? Yes. His remarks are tolerable, but if he DARES to lay one finger on Helga’s home-made mead stash, she will certainly curse him out of the door in no time.
Not an inkling of such a temper is visible upon her features as she converses with Kit, though. Old documents & notes are spread out on the kitchen table, dating back from when Helga was still an active member of the Fire Department. A magnifying glass in one hand and a mug of steaming tea in the other ; the sight is almost PEACEFUL if it weren’t for its turbulent context. “ You’re right that he is a nuisance at times, but we can’t let dislike divide us any further. That is exactly what Olaf is hoping for. ”

it all comes down to you. ( clara/morse)
FLEETWOOD MAC STARTERS. ( accepting. ) @vonlorde !
HE SENSES THE PRESSURE, even though she may not have intended to put it there. It’s in the teacher’s concerned demeanour. The air of WORRY is not unexpected — after all, it is not every day that one of one’s pupils goes missing.
Morse hears a plural “you” and assumes she is talking to the police division in general, and yet it feels like a weight has been dropped upon his individual shoulders — as if she is putting just a little more faith in HIM than in the others. And the possibility that he might fail to bring the teenager back and disappoint not only his parents but also his ( admittedly, more than lovely ) tutor, transforms him into Atlas himself.
“ Well , not all of it. Your assistance will undoubtedly be of great value to the investigation. ” Wrong choice of words ! ‘ Investigation ’ makes the situation look much direr than he wants to let her know.
“ If anything comes to mind, no matter how trivial it may seem, you can always give me a call on this number, ” he advises, nodding at the card he has retrieved from his badge. An UNPROFESSIONAL impulse overcomes the man. He hesitates for a second, searches for a pen in his coat — he always carries one around after one time when he found himself without writing utensils but with a crossword that was SCREAMING to be solved. The detective finds himself on THIN ICE when he scribbles down his private telephone number.
“ Or on this one. ”
