He knew from personal experience.Â
The warrior, Dawnfeather, had tried to kill the deputy when he was caught by Volekitâs father. The exiled, begrudged warrior returned one day and killed him.
Not to mention the many tales of it happening before. Warriors cast out or rogues rejected, only to later come back into an even worse enemy for all of the Clans, most particularly for the Clan that rejected or cast them out.
He didnât understand how anyone never learned from their past mistakes! Except for him.
A warrior wanting to join another Clan. A rogue wishing to join a Clan. A loner kit with a Clan parent wanting to join a Clan. All turned away, all followed by Volenight and taken care of so they couldnât return another time and make everything worse for everyone.
A sick family looking for medicine, only to be sent away as soon as they were fully healed. Unethical maybe, but it wasnât like Volenight enjoyed being the only warrior with any sensibility. If he didnât kill these rogues, they would come to try to destroy the Clans, and if he didnât kill these kits, they would only grow into enemies harder to defeat.
And he was right! He was right. Other than that incident with Dawnfeather and his father, no one had tried to harm the Clans. Older, he laid in the medicine den as a senior warrior, knowing his time was coming soon. Images flashed over in his mind of all of them, every face, every second of fear. He pushed it all away and told himself that he kept the Clans safe. He was a hero.
--Get it? Night? Because he looks like heâs wearing armor like a knight?
--Around the end of his life, he lost both of his eyes. They were clawed badly and had to be taken out (somehow) to prevent infection, which he later got of the lung.
--He knows deep down that heâs in the wrong, but doesnât like the thought that he killed all those cats for no reason, so he avoids thinking like that.
--He was called Noeye by a joking elder.
