Initial ref and doodles for DBZ!Void! I decided to make an entire alien race called the Dragonoids/ドゥラゴ人. Details under the cut because it's loooong
Race: Drago/Dragonoids (ドゥラゴ人)
A race of humanoids with reptilian properties, on a warm planet.
Appearance/Physical Attributes:
They are naturally strong from the scales on their body, which can be increased or decreased at will and also react to the individual's mood. A Dragonoid feeling safe with their partner(s) will showcase very few scales if any, while a Dragonoid that is scared may be entirely covered in scales. Most of the time, they are partially covered, and this normal. Scales tend to be some shade of gold, though this can range from very yellow to green tinted, or even more bronze, and in rare cases silver. All possess strong, dark colored nails that are claw-like, and a tail. The tail is typically the length of the torso or longer, though there is natural variation. Some Dragonoids possess a sharp, hardened end to their tail. There are also a variety of horn shapes. Wings have mostly evolved out since flight can be achieved without them, but some Dragonoids still have small vestigial wings on their backs. Their eyes can be a variety of colors, and are slitted, dilating fully when excited.
The underside of the tail and the base of the horns/horns themselves can be erogenous zones, as well as the area where vestigial wings or their structures under the skin may remain.
Dragonoids also possess the ability to transform, which raises their power levels. They become more like full dragons in shape, losing the more humanoid aspects. It is a natural ability to Dragonoids that can be used with little training. They can breath Ki or elemental damage this way, more efficiently.
Dragonoids are partially reptilian, and while not entirely cold-blooded do not regulate their temperature as well as true warm-blooded races like humans or saiyans. As a result, sudden drops in temperature are quite dangerous to them, and colder temperatures make them sluggish and may even cause them to go to sleep, only to wake up if the temperature improves. Their planet is warm and possesses two suns, so while the night is technically cooler, it is never "cold". Temperatures in the 50s and below prove difficult for them if not properly kept warm.
Dragonoid physiology seeks deep emotional connection alongside physical connection. This can be romantic, platonic, or something in between. When a "mate" in any of these categories is selected, the dragonoid experiences pheromone induced changes that push them to grow closer to the other dragonoid, particularly by physical touch such as cuddling (ideally skin to skin contact, but feeling the other person's warmth is sufficient) and spending time in the same space. Being unable to act on these drives causes stress over time.
Cultural Aspects
Pronouns
All Dragonoids default to using they/them at birth. They/them is exclusively a singular pronoun in the Dragonoid language. To refer to groups, one uses dragothey/dragothem. As Dragonoids come in contact with other races, some Dragonoids have begun to choose other pronouns for dragothemselves.
Similarly, dragonoid's genitalia are not the same as humans in that it is truly impossible to tell what genitals a dragonoid possesses based on how they look. It is also a serious faux pas to do so - only the dragonoid themself and anyone they choose (typically including romantic mates and medical staff) will ever be aware of what genitalia they posses.
Community
Community is very important to the Dragonoids. It takes a planet to raise a child, and love and affection is doled out with ease. Dragothey are a peace loving and science seeking race.
While they are wary of outsiders, due to their natural strength they don't hesitate to provide accommodations, confident that despite their limited combat training it will be no matter to overwhelm any visitor. The Dragonoids dragothemselves do not tend to leave the planet - while they possess the technology to do so, they lack the interest in other species, preferring to keep to their own corner of the world.
Frieza's Influence
Naturally, the Dragonoids are unable to stop Frieza when he arrives. He likes the strength he sees in the species, though his own surpasses them, particularly because they have no history of fighting. He demands the strongest of the current brood of children in exchange for not wiping out the planet. This agreement is reached, though it deeply pains the Dragonoids.
Void is one such child handed over. Frieza scanned the children and determined which had the highest energy levels, and that was how he chose. Void rose the highest in the ranks, as the strongest of the children he took.
Frieza intends to continue culling children from the Dragonoids and raising dragothem for his own purposes.
Void
Physical Traits
Void is the strongest Dragonoid, objectively, because of their natural disposition and the fact that they were trained by Frieza. They rank somewhere between Zarbon and the Ginyu Force by the time the Frieza Saga rolls around.
Physically, they possess silver horns and true gold scales. They have no visible vestigial wings, and a long tail. Their eyes are silver with a blue tint. The tip of their tail is hard and sharp, coated in unusual silver scales. It isn't until after Frieza Saga that they discover this, but those silver scales can be made to cover their entire body in normal or transformed form, giving them a substantial energy boost. Their transformation is also powerful, reminiscent of a Western dragon. Their nail-claws are black, their hair purple with streaks of pink, including a pink partial buzzcut.
Loose Backstory
Void is torn from their home planet as a teenager by Frieza. They are taken from a place of love and warmth to one of cold and hurt. They go from their natural disposition (kind, gentle, and excited) to one more suited for being Frieza's soldier (ruthless, harsh, and on edge). Those other traits remain, coming out on occasion and unable to be fully suppressed. This masking is for self defense and survival, as any weakness will be taken advantage of by their fellow warriors. It is not something they truly embrace, though their senses have become dulled to violence.
Their Dragonoid physiology imprints on Vegeta as their mate. They were never given the talk about this sort of thing, and they are somewhat at the whims of their pheromones as a result. They want to spend time with him, but over time even that is not enough, as they want physical contact but cannot allow themself to initiate that, fearing that he would not return it and the weakness would be taken advantage of. This is a significant source of stress for them, even if they don't fully realize it.
