...Yeah, um. I didn't feel like posting this here, honestly, but here i am now. I dont know, its just feels wrong not to share this here a lil bit. Been playing Nullscape a lot (because I didn't feel like playing anything anymore and to comfort myself..really. Yk the situations), and this guy(/gn) is so fghfhfhf... They're cool.

okay so I've probably asked this question before but I feel like i still don't quite have a head around the answer. My setting is practically defined by the Dreaming King, who is one of the titans. He's not exactly one of the villains, so much as he is a villainous force that the actual villains keep using, despite the fact that he's... magically radioactive.

However, I don't quite have a motivation nailed down for the King. Here are the important notes on his character:

He used to be human. He and the Earth Mother were the only survivors of the previous world turning into a magic black hole, and they survived by taking the souls of every living thing on the planet into themselves, elevating them beyond godhood and technically saving the world (but only in dreams—see Final Fantasy X and Dream Zanarkand for an example). Being mind hives has left both of them slightly... off.

Early on in the history of the world he and his wife created, he was mortally wounded. The wound was not to his body, which is basically a projection of him anyway: it was to his soul. This wound has several consequences:

He is dying. He's basically bleeding out, but his "blood" is made of half the souls of the previous world and it's also going very, *very* slowly. He's been more or less incapacitated for 8,000 years, only interacting with the world through his "blood" or through dreams.

He is in constant agony. That is the thing he feels the most; everything is pain to him.

The wound destroyed his ability to feel empathy but not his ability to feel compassion. He wants to help humanity, but as someone who no longer has a human perspective and has had his ability to understand human wants and desires essentially surgically removed, he *cannot* understand what humans actually want or need.

3. Enough of his blood gets into a person, his mind overtakes their own and turns them into an extension of him. This is not voluntary on his part.
