Heartbeat by Vocal Rush.
Vocal Rush came in 3rd in the last Sing Off. What they lacked in experience, they more than made up in passion. Plus, their female beat boxer is awesome.
Our First Crush Was Vocal Rush: "Heart Attack (feat. Forte)"
We were floored by this incredibly genuine, heart-felt performance of Demi Lovato's "Heart Attack", a collaboration between two outstanding vocal a cappella groups Vocal Rush (Oakland School of the Arts, featured in NBC's Sing Off) and Forte (Centerville High School, OH). It's worth noting that the lead singer may very well be ready for the pop charts herselsf, as her vocal range and timbre compare to those of Demi Lovato. Fans of the song are sure to love this cover, as well as fans of Glee-style a cappella groups. Vocal Rush - Heart Attack (feat. Forte)
ALRIGHT Y'ALL LISTEN UP I'M GOING TO TAKE A MOMENT FROM YOUR SCHEDULED BLOGGING TO TALK ABOUT THIS GROUP OF BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE RIGHT HERE
This group of high schoolers call themselves Vocal Rush, and they all go to an audition-only public charter school (that's right, these kids are getting free education) called Oakland School for the Arts. I happen to go there as well but that's not important. A few years back, their teacher Lisa Forkish decided to make a new class to help her students the a capella craze. Little did she know how popular they would become.
Vocal Rush entered a TV show called The Sing-Off, where they earned their big break by making their way all the way to the top three competitors...despite being the youngest group to compete. I know that one of their videos from that show where they're singing Fall Ot Boy even got pretty popular on tumblr as well, with some spot on commentary in the tags. (click here to check it out) But what's so special about these kids, you ask? If you wanted a capella you could have just watched Pitch Perfect.
Well Vocal Rush is nothing like the a capella groups in Pitch Perfect, in that they're ten times more real. No "token" anything. There's an equal mix of all sorts of LGBTQA up in here, not to mention the spectrum of race. AND these kids come from all different family and social situations. There's no favorites here either, I can promise you that every single one of these kids earned their way into the group, and each one has had at least one solo over the course of the year.
tl;dr: Vocal Rush is an accepting and mixed group of talented, public school arts students who you should all check out. Their three singles dropped on iTunes earlier today, for only 99 cents each, so please go and check them out!!
