I just finished rewatching Vanitas no Carte, and I told myselfâif I really paid attention this time, if I seriously looked into each relationship and understood what the story was trying to sayâIâd probably come to terms with why Vanijeanne is the canon couple. And you know what? I did. Theyâre compelling, layered, and good together. But instead of pulling me away from Vanoe, all it did was make me love them even more.
Vanitas and Jeanne? Canon for a reason. Their relationship is full of charm and emotional growth. Iâd honestly be on board with themâif Noé didnât exist. And itâs not just because I prefer the âgay shipâ for the sake of it. Vanijeanne has its depth: their tension, emotional confusion, and the navigation of feelings are fun to watch. I respect it. I enjoy it.
But Vanoe... there's just something different there. Something deeper. Their bond radiates a kind of emotional intimacy that transcends labels or tropes. You can see it in the smallest momentsâtheir glances, the way they speak without words, how they hold space for each other even in silence.
Vanitas gets flustered not because Noé is unpredictable or overbearing, but because Noé sees right through himâwith those unfiltered, steady eyes. And when Vanitas looks into Noéâs amethyst gaze, he sees his own reflectionânot distorted, not judged, just seen. And that terrifies him in the most human way possible.
Noé looks at Vanitas with curiosity, with honesty, with a quiet understanding that Vanitas never expected from anyone. It shakes him. It touches something in him that even he doesnât fully understand. And that subtle, powerful connection is what makes Vanoe shine so brightly to me, even next to the canon. And that's just one of the many things I want to talk about them! There's probably gonna be a lot of Vanoe rants coming from me in the following weeks, or days!
