!! Okay so, in VMV, demons have genetic classes/ranks that they’re born into

There are common demons, demon generals, and demon prinxes - each rank has defining features to make it stand out from the other ranks. And ranks can only be passed down genetically. Two demon generals can’t have a common demon child, since neither of them have the common demon gene to pass down. Make sense?

(I actually did punnett squares for this hee hoo - the common rank is the dominant gene, while the general rank is the recessive gene; which means that while a common demon might have a recessive general gene, they'll present as a common demon, and the only way to get a demon general is to have two of those demon general genes match up)

(It gets way more complicated, and fun imo, when you factor in cross-sin/hybrid sin demons, because the sins have a certain hierarchy they follow in genetics as well, BUT we’re not talking abt that here uwu)

The prinxe gene behaves strangely, compared to the general and common rank genes. The prinxe gene will only pass down IF it can match up to the sin it belongs to. A quick example, a greed prinxe can only be born from two (or more) greed demons, and so on for the rest of the sins. (There is an exception to this rule, but it would require quite a bit more explanation!).

Either way, prinxes happen to be a rank that are... extremely supervised/controlled. Thanks to an age-old tradition that dictates there can only be one prinxe per sin circle (one pride prinxe, one envy prinxe, one wrath prinxe, ect.), the original Prinxes of Cirxia devised the prinxe challenges, to be supervised by the reigning prinxes from the other sin circles - when a child prinxe challenges the parent prinxe, the loser of the challenge gives up their life for the winner.

(Unless one of the participants breaks the rules - in which case the supervising prinxes get every right to murder said participant and guarantee an automatic win for the other participant. This is what happened in Sakareth’s case actually!)
