The Tessa and Scott "bandmates" au:
'The Moir Brothers' with Danny, Charlie, and Scott.
Danny quits first to record a 'Sounds of Denmark' album and Charlie leaves not soon after to become a firefighter
Scott debuts as a solo artist after a 2 year hiatus and becomes quite popular
Tessa used to be in a girls' group with Meryl and Tanith and hated every moment of it. She was only in it because the record label they were signing to wanted to sign all three of them together
She quit it after she finished her high school and went to formally study music composition and ghostwrote a few popular songs
Scott's team - Alma, actually - reach out to Tessa and ask her to write a song for him to perform at a fundraiser
Scott is so gobsmacked by how attractive she is that he stammers while explaining the new sound he wants to experiment
Tessa is surprised that she really enjoys working with him. He doesn't dismiss her opinions for one, and lets her know that he loves hearing her sing
The song they write together about being lonely at the top is a success, and so apt because Scott debuts it at a sports charity that provides support to Olympic athletes transitioning to normal life
Mike Babcock asks him if he would like to perform it at another public fundraiser he's hosting because several athletes have raved about the song to him
Patrick Chan, who runs into Scott at the event, convinces him to record and release it, part of the proceeds going to charity
Tessa is completely on board with the idea of a small documentary about the song and a mucic video to go with it
Except Scott has this "brilliant" idea where he decides he wants her to record it with him
Tessa freaks out at first because it's been way too long since she sang but eventually, he twists her arm and she relents
The internet goes gaga because so many celebrities and athletes tweet about their song and because the pair of them gush about each other in every interview they give
They play morning shows and when their documentary comes out, it's so easy for everyone to see their obvious chemistry. They're Tumblr's new OTP
Scott wants her to be his bandmate but she convinces him to do a 10 month tour as double acts to get a feel of their partnership before going official
The ten months are the best time of Scott's life. They play sold out crowds and small, intimate venues. Variety and Rolling Stones both rank their concerts as a must attend because of how they draw everyone in
They do a couple of joint photoshoots together and it only fuels the 'Are you guys dating?' question from the press
One night she has a bad run in with her ex and to make her think of literally anything else, Scott kisses her and they sleep together for the first time
Tessa tries to panic and flee when they wake up but Scott holds her down and tells her to not think too much about it.
Since that night, they often end up in the same bed together - sometimes out of loneliness/boredom and sometimes because they need a cuddle buddy
They don't talk about it after the ten months are over and they get a joint agent who asks them if they want to play it coy with the media about their relationship status or go on The Ellen Show and give her a sweet story of when they decided to get together
Their agent looks disappointed when they say they're not dating and suggests that if they want to dispel the rumours, he could fix one or both of them up with discreet, high profile clients who are also looking for love
Scott has this horrible vision of Tessa being shackled up for life with a frat boy white male who thinks he's entitled to her time and effort simply because he doesn't realise her taste in men is terrible and she would walk across oceans for someone who won't row across a river for her. Also, Tessa has a whole bunch of 'Maybe this is what I deserve' issues that he's trying to get her to give up
Tessa imagines Scott with a sweet country girl who will be happy to be a house wife and a mother to his three kids and a dog and writes blogs about gardening and cooking. Occasionally, she'll join him on the tour bus and Tessa will have to drink herself to sleep over how adorable and perfect they are because she wants a career and she doesn't know if she wants kids - like, ever - and while dogs are okay, she really prefers a cat or a parrot
They don't talk for two months while their agent works overtime in the background, securing the best deals for both of them as a team and individually as artists
He breaks first, calling her on her birthday when she is in Sydney, visiting her sister.
She doesn't know what to say to him so she just starts crying because she's missed him so much and the distance has been unbearable
He's on the next flight to visit her, and it's a bit of a struggle locating where she's staying at but thank God for Jordan's profile on LinkedIn and her secretary for buying his white lie about her lost UPS package
She's not alone when he turns up and her sister takes one look at him, disheveled and a worn duffel bag sliding down his shoulder pathetically, and calls for Tessa who emerges with her mouth full of chocolate and a messy top bun from the kitchen
He's never seen a more beautiful woman in his life
She jumps on to him and hugs him like a koala bear, her legs around his waist, her hands around his neck and her forehead pressed against his shoulder and it's his turn to cry because 'oh my god i am in love with this amazing perfect woman who makes me so happy and gives me purpose'
Jordan leaves them alone with eye-rolling and a muttered 'ugh idiots'
He kisses her everywhere and she says 'I love you' first. Instead of answering 'I love you too' like a normal human being he says 'Oh my god I love you so much I can't function without you marry me'
She laughs because she thinks it's a joke, then he pulls out a simple 400$ silver band with vines engraved
She lets him put it on her but kisses him and says they should wait until they've toured for at least two years and see if they still want to marry each other
He thinks that's such a stupid rule BECAUSE if he's sure of one thing, it's that he's meant to find Tessa Virtue and convince her that he was worthy enough to spend the rest of her life with him
They tell their agent they're going to play coy to the media - for their privacy and to piss some family members who've been running a betting pool on them since their first meeting (as of now Jim Virtue and Leanne Moir are tied with having the best odds)
With every public sighting of the two of them, the internet loses its minds and both of them are happy to fan the rumours by flirting on social media when they're snuggled with each other, humouring 'How well do you know each other' and 'Never Have I Ever' game requests by practicing what questions to answer wrong because while it may be grating, it's so much fun to be in a relationship where both of them are on the same page about everything and it's nice to have a secret bubble to retreat into once in a while
Their families are overjoyed and it's crazy how quickly they've become the Virtue-Moir family
He goes to her Vogue Canada cover shoot
She goes to his charity hockey games
One day, months after their two year window, they are accidentally outed
It's a radio interview about their first studio album together and they both deliver the prepared 'it's a dream come true to work with him/her. I didn't believe something like this was possible. We're so glad for each other.' but the host is having none of it.
S, while describing their album: 'It's kind of like our baby. I know a lot of people say that and I never really felt like this when I put out both my studio albums or the stuff I did with my brothers. I'm a constant ball of anxiety, reading and re-reading reviews and checking on sales because it's like our baby.' *looks at Tessa to continue*
T: 'I mean, I totally feel the same way because I want it to do well but I also want to hold onto the experience of making it for as long as I can because this has been such a productive collaborative venture and we're so, so lucky and so in love with this album.'
Interviewer: And when are you making the real baby? Have you guys planned on how many kids you want?
S: Realistically, whenever Tessa says she's ready because it's her body that's going to change and I can wait forever, no problem...*Tessa sucks in a breath and reminds him to Stick To The Plan*...that would be quite something, probably the first time two platonic business partners had a baby, eh? How about you, do you have kids?
Interviewer: *smug smile*
Their agent: *uggghh you lovesick idiots*
Scott beats himself up over the ensuing internet storm where people seem to both love him for being "woke" and "unproblematic" while also calling him an "absolute walnut" for giving Tessa stress breakouts
Tessa hates seeing him like that so she announces 'New media strategy. We're going to do whatever we want and no one should ask us if we're dating'
Their agent: That's impossible.
Tessa, fixing him with her cool, unimpressed look: we're paying you to do exactly that. We don't owe anyone anything other that our artistry
They become careful choosing their interviews and only choose to participate in things that highlight their careers
Tessa posts cute content of the pair of them off stage
A few years pass, and when it's an open secret that they're together but no one is interested in asking them about it, they get married in a small Ilderton cathedral
The world guesses when Tessa posts a picture of their combined families in ugly Christmas sweaters with the caption 'Merry Christmas from the Virtue-Moirs!'
They announce they're taking a break from touring for a while to work on their second album and a new project
The world collectively combusts when Scott gets on social media after a long time and posts a black and white picture of Tessa and their dog, with her Cartier wedding ring (understated and elegant) shining as it rests on a small bump.
He captions it 'Can't wait to go home to my girls.'
They never come up with a better name than 'Tessa and Scott' through their whole career.
