they're having to go in and out through the zamboni bay at the competition, picking their way over wet concrete in their skate guards
the days before reusable water bottles
you can see their tv show crew reflected in the glass - so 2 cameras, and they're standing on the ice in their shoes. imagine all the skating and training footage they have somewhere
you’d think at a busy rink like Arctic Edge they wouldn’t have personal space in the change room, but he has fan art🎨☺️👩🎨
Marina in her flip flops taking her Pekingese to Champs Camp in Colorado, driving to the airport in her red BMW convertible is a funny sentence to write😅
is he wedged between her and the driver's side door? 😅

Toronto Sun interview with VM ahead of their show premiere - that's Ryan Pyette introducing the clip, the London Free Press reporter who makes a short (kinda cringey) appearance in the show
i think this is from the media day they had in October 2013 to promote the show. at that point, it was supposed to be a 6 episode series, but it ended up being 7, with the last 2 shown on one night, February 6, 2014, just before VM skated the team event in Sochi on February 8
T: we feel completely comfortable, and we wanted to be open and honest and we wanted our genuine selves to show through in the series, and I think that we were able to do that
they've always spoken warmly about the crew that followed them for months. Scott behaved honestly that he was uneasy and wary about being filmed, maybe 😅 VM intended to be genuine, so i wonder if they felt betrayed by the sometimes manipulative editing. they do freely admit to ups and downs and pressures getting to them, they knew they were being filmed during some intense moments, but some of the other stuff had to have been a surprise?
S: we're really happy with where the programs are at, we're happy with the feeling, we've got great feedback that the programs are the right vehicle to take us where we want to go. so at this point in the year we feel like we're right on track which is definitely ahead of where we were last year, and we knew that. we knew coming into this year we need to be on our game, and we don't have time to fall behind
T: in our free dance we're telling our story, so I think it's easy to connect, and i feel like they're Olympic worthy programs, and not every program is. you hear a piece of music, and if you can imagine yourself standing center ice at the Olympics performing that, i think that's really telling, and we're very picky when it comes to that so I think we're really pleased with you know our programs
i know they would have stood behind their programs that season no matter how they felt, and they could rightly feel proud of them. but you do also hear they had trouble finding their FD music and maybe settled on Seasons. and he said years later that the programs weren't quite there that season (though that feels a little harsh - they were robbed in the SD, can we die on that hill). so i wonder if they did feel as enthusiastic about the programs as they're saying here
Scott looks like he relaxes or shows more enthusiasm when he's asked about his family and friends back home. says there was a segment shot with his family together - i don't think that's in the show, which is too bad
they mention consulting with Bruce Craven, the physio who helped Tessa relearn her mechanics to help her legs, which is never mentioned on the show. and that they train partly in London with Maria Mountain at RevCon - she was also their nutritionist during this period, too
the Arctic Edge zamboni had portraits of Tessa and Scott on both sides- i didn’t notice this one before because it goes by in a flash:
couldn’t miss this though😅:
Meryl and Charlie had to watch this drive around several times a day for FOUR YEARS 😅 i wonder if they got their own spray paint zamboni portraits after Sochi - hopefully they didn't spray over these😂

they're shown walking into the competition venue, and then it cuts to them practicing as if it's right before the SD, but they're practicing some parts of Seasons, which they're not competing here, so had to look closer -
they're on private ice in a rink that's not the competition arena, but the ads on the boards, including one from Hugo Chouinard's skating music business, are from Quebec, so this could be another sheet of ice in the arena, or one of the hundred rinks in the Montreal area, and probably either much earlier in the day or even a different day -
not sure why they showed us this instead of the actual warmup for the competition. but i do love watching them practice - something about them doing everything so beautifully but in the most casual training clothes plus getting a peek into something that we don't usually get to see feels special
after they compete, on their way to the small medals ceremony, Tessa says, "i'm putting on normal clothes, is that ok?" and he says "yeah, that's all i have" - what they each mean by normal clothes:
her: one of her many white boucle hint of Chanel jackets. him: black Revcon t-shirt. very yin/yang of them as ever ☯☺️
the golden skate forum has been around long enough that there's a 2014 thread of people commenting on the VM show as it was happening-
"I'm happy to report that my cat, a creature of impeccable taste, LOVES this reality show for some reason. He comes and lays by my shoulder and watches intently in a way previously only witnessed when he is able to glimpse The Discovery Channel"
"I have a love/hate relationship with this show. On one hand, I like the behind the scenes stuff [ ... ] and seeing Marina being stern and loving her little dog. I just don't like the narrative they are building for "Tessa" and "Scott" which I wonder how real it actually is. "
"I think the show is hilarious. [ ... ] Scott... doesn't come across as very likable in the show. [ ... ] Marina and evilllle Meryl are the break out stars of the show - especially Marina. She punks them all"
"For anyone who cares, I think my cat is losing patience with the show. He came over immediately when it started but after 7 minutes, he was out of there"
the cat being over the show around ep 4 😅 Patrick's PChiddy nickname needs to be retired forever. i didn't know D/W fans called them Marlie
then there was this -
"I've been catching up on interviews, and while still in Sochi, Tessa mentions them going to watch the show on the flight back, but in every interview after getting back they both say they haven't seen it yet and probably won't get time to for a while"
even if they were totally focused on training in the lead up to Sochi, you'd think they would have heard about it or been curious about the response to the show. the way the show treated Cassandra was pretty rude - you'd think he would at least have heard about that
VM not admitting to seeing it, not speaking on it could be a version of "if you have nothing nice to say..." while also keeping plausible deniability
