Santorini Island may not be famous for sandy, exotic beaches like most of the other islands of the Aegean Sea; on the contrary, Santorini’s beaches are mostly small, rocky and seemingly unwelcoming, but once you look past this first impression, you will be taken aback by their unusual beauty and hidden charms.
The beaches of Santorini were forged by the fierce power of lava and the massive volcanic eruption of 1600 BC; they are rough and rugged, but they display a multitude of colour and shapes that make them truly unique. The beach of Vlychada is among those beaches, and for many it is the most amazing beach in Santorini!
The first time you look at Vlychada takes your breath away; a thin stretch of black and grey pebbles lies under the shadow of a steep rock, carved by the artistic power of the sea, the sand and the wind resulting in an almost lunar scenery. This beach represents the true character of Santorini’s coast; rocky, rough and simply one-of-a-kind.
Vlychada is rather secluded, and barely organized, with just a few sunbeds and umbrellas and a few snack bars and tavernas located at the beginning of the beach, whereas towards its end it is left completely natural. Those who love isolation and tranquility will instantly fall in love with the mystifying ambiance of Vlychada, the most amazing beach of Santorini.
