Fixing missions.

There are parts of Jorvik that have been tainted by industrialism, pollution, and sheer human greed - look at the Everwind Oil Fields, Bear Point, the weird poison pond in Crescent Moon. Helping to repair those would be a great way of introducing a narrative about environmentalism and climate change. The Jorvik Rangers could help the MC diagnose the issue, put in place a plan for repair, and it’s slowly achieved by daily tasks like helping the foal on South Hoof or the Soul Riding quests. It would be slow work, and you’d have to ensure visible progress happened to avoid making it grind-y, but that’s okay - environmentalism is hard, slow work. You could re-introduce species and put in place plans for conservation and re-wilding sites, maybe set up new Ranger stations to ensure that Jorvik remains protected. It would also highlight opportunities for education, and maybe NPCs could give suggestions for small changes players can make in their real lives, like reducing car travel and single-use plastics. Individual action is not going to save the planet, but it’s a good start, and people who might not listen to scientists will listen to their children. That’s why so many conservation projects focus on getting kids involved and interested - if the next generation has an interest in a project, their parents often develop one too.

You could also extend this model (albeit with a different narrative and quests) to finally fixing the many ‘under construction’ sites on Jorvik - The Baroness’ Racetrack is the one that springs to mind. Helping actually construct that and make it a working track, with a new flat or steeplechase race unlocked at the end of it. Maybe you even get the Northlink guys involved, persuade them to see a more ethical side of construction that creates something for the community, not for profit.
