Am so so so happy, there is a possibility that our pride and joy might be awarded as KINABALU GEOPARK by the UNESCO. The Aspiring Kinabalu UNESCO Global Geopark (aKUGGp) covers three main districts nanely Kota Belud, Kota Marudu and part of Ranau. It features the three inter-related elements aka ABC: Abiotic geological feature, Biotic biodiversity marvel and Cultural aspects. "Aki Nabalu" as known to the locals, is actually in the Kadazandusun language,  "Aki" means ancestor and "Nabalu" is a place or mountain, basically Aki Nabalu meant ancestral mountain.
