I need resources on adapting to severe vision loss
Hi y’all: my dad is currently rapidly losing his vision. We have learned that surgical intervention is out of the question until at least February 2020 (and may not be possible) due to other medical problems. I don’t have a quantitative description, but he is no longer able to navigate anything but his house without assistance because he can’t see obstacles at ground level. He can sometimes see highly enlarged light text on dark backgrounds. If he holds it at just the right angle, very close to his face, he can sometimes use his phone to text by hand. He is implementing accessibility settings on his smartphone and laptop, but otherwise isn’t really sure what to do to prepare as his vision continues to worsen. He is not a very active person and his primary hobbies are cooking and surfing various internet forums related to cooking. He is occupying himself mostly with audiobooks at the moment. I am doing my own research, but I am also seeking input and practical advice from others who may have experienced this or supported a loved one in managing a transition to severe vision impairment.
Please feel free to reblog to help signal boost.
Thanks.
