TO THE MOON by Laurie Anderson e Hsin-Chien Huang
Venezia 76 - Venezia VR Isola Lazzaretto Vecchio.
On the occasion of the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the moon landing in 2018, Laurie Anderson and Hsin-Chien Huang, who have been working together for years now in the experimentation and implementation of new technological projects, developed this work, which is among the most ambitious in their long collaboration.
Through virtual reality we experience in this work an otherworldly journey at low gravity and sometimes dizzying. To The Moon wants to give the viewer a new perspective in space inspired by the story of an ancient Chinese painter who painted a huge landscape in a vertical painting. The painting was very intricate and took several years to complete. Once finished the painter entered it. And this is the intention of the artists of To The Moon, to make the viewer enter the work of art just as the Chinese painter entered his painting.
The result, then, is an immersive installation of 15 minutes where you are transported to the surface of the moon and floating in the lunar atmosphere, surrounded by elements or rather earthly icons with which to interact.
