Hi! I'm Violet. I'm very new to sharing my writing. I'm pretty shy, but I love seeing what other people are working on :)

I write novels, short stories, and flash fiction.  You can find some of my writing here! I also tag all original fiction with violetliddell.

I'm drawn to stories with a feminist attitude, complex characters, and dark edges. I love SFF and psychological thrillers. In my writing you might find:

witches, goddesses, and pirates

moral dilemmas

sword fights and sea battles

lonely heroes

crime, murder, and life-changing mistakes

strange powers

hints of body horror/weirdness

found families

women taking control of their fates

I’ve written a series of novels about witches, with one standalone and a trilogy. I'm currently editing the final book in the trilogy while querying the first. I'll be posting more about these WIPs in future.

CHANGE

Each new generation made changes so they could live in an entirely different home, calling it their own until the next tenants came along, infinitely erasing the past and fortifying the future.

FLOAT

Dark fabric floated above me, sunlight piercing through tiny gaps.

BALANCE

He balanced the axe between his feet, gripping the handle with firm hands.

Hi! Thanks for asking, I posted a little bit of info about it here :)

Some more info is that the 2 protagonists are called Judith and Cassandra. It's written in 1st person, swapping between the 2 characters. I tried to make their voices distinct, but it was challenging at times.

There's also 2 cool lady detectives who are investigating Judith and Cassandra. If I ever pick this WIP back up, I'd love to do more stories with the detectives :)

Hey! Pipe Dreams is a short story about a middle-aged mother who abandons her normal life when she becomes the target of a gang.

It's based on a dream I had. I'm planning on sprucing it up soon, it's a fun story and a little twisted!

Blood Sisters is the first novel I wrote! It's a feminist psychological thriller about two women dealing with trauma while committing crimes.

I've put it aside for now as I feel it needs a lot of work. It was a great learning experience though! Maybe I'll get back to it one day :)

These are on the playlist for my witch-based WIP Coven Sisters:

Forest Families by The Knife: This story takes place mostly in a coven surrounded by a forest, so...forest family!

Predict the Day by Ladytron: This is a song for Yan, a Seer who has visions of the future and runs away from the coven.

The Darkest Wave by Pye Corner Audio ft. Faten Kanaan: I like the pacing in this song, it gives it a sense of movement. It helped inspire the structure for a pivotal scene.

Cartographist by Purity Ring: A song for restless moonlit nights and slow walks through dewy forests.

The Devil and the Huntsman by Sam Lee & Daniel Pemberton: This is a good build-up song for the climactic fight scene!
