Once upon a time I worked on a kids television show for Cartoon Network UK. On the show there are four awesome kids that basically kick monster-ass all day. And on episode ten they introduce the character Mr. Kim who turns into a furry mutant tarantula, but when he isn’t a monster he is a food store owner who wears a bow-tie. On this one day, I was on the way to work and I saw he was coming in and realized I DIDN’T KNOW HOW TO TIE A BOW-TIE!! Every stylists knows how to tie a regular tie but a bow-tie that’s a different story. After freaking out, I wicked my sweat away and went to my dear friend who can show me how to do just about anything at a moment’s notice… YouTube!

I watched the video for what seemed like a hundred times and when Mr. Kim came into the room we had fifteen minutes to get him on set (meanwhile he hasn’t gone through hair and makeup.) My mind is racing and I’m thinking of all the reasons why the assistant directors and producers will hate me or chase me down the street with hot lights. Because that’s normal, right?

Anyway it took some tugs and pulls to get it almost perfect but I pulled it off on the first effing try!! After that day I wanted everyone to wear bow-ties and wore one any chance I got.

It was Father’s Day yesterday so I thought it appropriate to talk about the first time I learned to tie a bow-tie.

In the spirit of the holiday just wanted to give a shout out to the Espinal and Miller Dads:

Charlie Miller is one of the coolest dads you will ever meet and he has the most beautiful love for his daughters. It is a bond that is so rare in this world. Plus you gotta love a man who wears in denim on denim. I secretly think he ran into a fashion editor and his charm blew her away so much that she had to make it a trend. Yup I’m saying it. He started the trend you see gracing the pages of your magazines. You’re the bomb Charlie!

And to my wonderful father who’s taken very good care of me since he first held me in his arms and he continues to do the same today. We love our parents and sometimes we need days to really appreciate what our parents mean to us. It takes a real man to be a father and I have to say that without a doubt my dad is THE BEST FATHER ON EARTH (I know you can beg to differ.) He is such a proud dad, he has SIX children and showed each and everyone of us an immense amount of love.
