Most elders only look forward to the day they join StarClan, but not Echoear. She’ll last as long as she has to so she doesn’t confront her past. Ever since she was born, Echoear has been manipulated and mistreated. She was born blind, and her large ears gave away that her father wasn’t in the Clan. Her mother, Midnightpelt, was embarrassed of her daughter, and didn’t know how to help little Echokit survive in the world. The other kits, including her now-denmate Beartooth, bullied and spat at her. But Echokit knew then she would prove them all wrong, and let them know she wasn’t to be messed with. None of her Clanmates had much faith that she’d become a warrior, but since she was born in the war against BlazeClan, she was thrown into the fray for good measure. She was an easy target, and she should’ve died. But she didn’t. She was named Echoear after the war, and continued her clause by honing her skills and becoming less tolerant of others. Echoear yearned for love, however; it was her one weakness. No one ever showed her a shred of kindness, and she ached for praise and the feeling of belonging. The only cat who gave that to her was the young Lightningfall. Like her, he was born from the war, and lost his parents in the effort. Their love was so short a cat could hunt a few pieces of prey in that time. It was in the heat of the moment, and Echoear thought it would be this way forever. But he turned on her after that night, even when she was carrying his kits. She never forgave him for abandoning her and their son Mosskit, and closed herself off from any other cat. She adored her son, and loved nothing more than for him to be the beloved and respected warrior she could never be. He always stood up for her when their Clanmates mocked her blindness, and never questioned the absence of a father. Now in her old age, Echoear shows little tolerance to any cat other than her family. She believes her Clanmates still don’t respect her, but little does she know the younger generation looks up to her quite a bit. Not many cats are still alive from the war, and they’re impressed she was such a strong warrior despite her setbacks. Echoear wasn’t the most sympathetic cat, but her skills aren’t to be undermined.

Kind and a bit shy, Celandinekit always seemed to look forward. She’s always planning ahead, sometimes to the point of ignoring the present. With her head always in the clouds, she loves to imagine what her life will become. But she lacks some self-confidence that would otherwise push her towards her dreams. Her Clanmates know she’s sweet, but she never seems to focus on what’s in front of her. The only cat that indulges into her air-headed behavior is her grandfather, Beartooth. The intimidating tom never seemed to scare her, and his gruffness was charming. The former warrior doesn’t seem to encourage her to follow her dreams to live a happy, comfortable life, and only seems to be the cat who will actually listen to her. They share a close bond that Celandinekit’s father, Wolfcatcher, does not seem happy about. He resents his father Beartooth, and doesn’t want his influence on his daughter. But Beartooth isn’t as ruthless as he used to be, and his fuzzy memory mixed with constant confusion makes him seem like a shell of his glory days. Celandinekit seems to relish in making her father mad; the two never did see eye-to-eye. She is still close with her littermates and mother, but doesn’t talk to them the way she does with her grandfather. No one else really understands her, but she always seemed to enjoy being with cats she could look up to.

Cranewing was born as a kittypet named Babe, but found herself feeling unsafe in her easy life when a dog was brought to her home, intruding on any space she once had. She begged for scraps around the Hindleg territory before she caught wind of the wild cats living in the nearby forest. Babe was intrigued by their skill at hunting and fighting, and she ventured towards the marsh. There, she ran into a young tom, and wanted to see his skills. To put it short, he could’ve killed her. But Babe got what she wanted, and was quite impressed. He took her back to his camp, where she was a little overwhelmed by the number of cats there. She was allowed to stay so that she could heal; she became close friends with the medicine cat and her apprentice, Harepaw. Her curiosity about these wild cats always kept her asking questions to those that would answer, and many of them became fond of the kittypet, especially the queens. Babe loved the kits, and always dreamed of having her own. After she fully recovered, she asked the leader to join their “Clan”. He saw promise in her devotion, and accepted her into VineClan under the name Cranepaw. The tom who found her, Wolfcatcher, gave her tips on how to improve her fighting maneuvers, and they became good friends. She had a tendency to be blunt to others and accidentally offend her Clanmates, but she always tried to make it up to them. Her apprenticeship went smoothly, and she soon became Cranewing. She found herself falling for her friend Wolfcatcher, and no one was surprised when they became mates. Although she was a fair fighter, she was drawn to the nursery, which had no permanent queens to care for kits. Thus, she took it upon herself to nurture and care for kits when no one else could, and she remains a queen to this day. Cranewing may have always wanted kits, but it was a long time before she finally became pregnant with Wolfcatcher’s kits. She loves her mate and her kits more than anything, and speaks fondly of them. She isn’t blind to her mischievous children, and always keeps and eye on them. While she doesn’t shy away from being tough with others, she’s naturally caring and loves being in her Clan.

Dewytuft has always been a soft-spoken and thoughtful cat. He always seemed to be day-dreaming, and looking forward to the future. But what he saw ahead wasn’t what his Clanmates might expect; he wanted every cat other than himself to live fulfilling lives. Dewytuft is asexual; he never had any interest in taking a mate or having kits of his own. Instead, he shared his love with his family and Clanmates. When he was younger, he was very skilled at building dens and gathering. For a time, VineClan’s leader made him the lead builder; he even went to other Clans to repair dens. Although he never had kits, he adores his nephew Smokenose. The two are quite close, and are often seen sharing tongues. He is good friends with fellow elder Echoear; they love teasing each other, and consider each other “honorary mates”. Dewytuft is quite popular with each generation of kits in the nursery; they loves his badger rides and interesting stories. While Dewytuft showed no interest in a partner to love, he gave it all to his Clan instead.
