this interview’s from 2002 and he’s talking about meeting steven spielberg when he started talking about writing vin a role in saving private ryan

Vin: “...and then [Spielberg] leans over to the casting director and says “I think Vin should meet Tom” and he like ‘oh I think that’s a good idea yeah he should meet Tom.’ Um, and I interject and I say “Tom who?” 

Vin: “And they both look at me like I’m joking and then they realize: I’m not joking! I don’t know who they’re talking about, I’m thinking Tom is another casting director or something...

Vin: “And they look at each other and Steve [Spielberg] goes: “Tom Hanks.” 

Vin: “And I go... Oh my god, I’m sorry, uh, I’m new to this. And he says “No, that’s good, that’s good, keep that. Don’t lose that.”

when you’re introduced to xander cage in xXx 1, the white senator says “where were you, tijuana? do you even speak english?” clearly presenting xander cage as being seen as mexican/latino

when he’s introduced in xXx 3, one of the things that give away that he’s being “tested” is that the white guy knew he spoke english, which implies he should blend in with the city population of the DR.
