The 1989 Barbie National US Convention had the theme "Forever Young". This was no doubt chosen as 1989 was the 30th year of the Barbie brand: Barbie may have been on shelves for 30 years, but she was still young at heart.
There were a couple of different convention exclusive dolls that year: one was Viky, a friend of Barbie otherwise exclusive to Brazil.
The other being a Mouseketeer.
This particularly stood out to me because it's harder to imagine these days that one of the convention dolls would be so closely tied to a non-Barbie brand - Disney would be unlikely to feature quite so highly now another 36-and-counting years down the track.
