Okay, now that I have your attention, a stupid question:

Vigil lamps: there is the fairly well-known custom to keep the flame lit from Pascha until Good Friday. Who out there does this? Who lights lamps but doesn't keep it lit all year? How does your lamp and/or vigil candle work for you spiritually? I ask because it has always been my custom to keep the lamp lit all year, but I had to switch from oil to wax because my apartment office people weren't too happy with what an oil lamp does to the walls. Half the point of the vigil lamp is the work it requires, and with a candle that only needs to be replaced twice a week, instead of twice daily, I feel like something is missing. But, if I used candles that would require more work (such as tealights), it would not stay lit perpetually. What's more important? The perpetual flame, or the "work"?
