Billie Eilish’s surprise new song, ‘bitches broken hearts’ is a presentation of a completely different style than that of her debut EP, ‘don’t smile at me,’ which was released this past August. In ‘bitches broken hearts,’ Billie takes a more stripped-down approach, and the only instruments on the song are an electric piano, paired with some percussion. ‘bitches broken hearts’ is reminiscent of the bedroom lo-fi pop sounds of Clairo, Mxmtoon, and Vietra, and is also quite ambient in terms of its arrangement. ‘bitches broken hearts’ is the type of song that gains dimension and momentum as it progresses, and seems like more of a sleeper hit. This is in contrast to a few of her previous songs on her EP, like ‘COPYCAT’ and ‘Bellyache,’ which were more uptempo. In ‘bitches broken hearts’, however, Eilish is passive in her vocal delivery, but her witty lyricism is still present, as she points out to the subject of the song that they miss her, even though she’s long since moved on. The song is effortless and nonchalant, and serves as proof of Billie’s versatility in her sound.
