From a very young age Vik ( @victorylost ) Was pushed into a parentified sibling situation. She took on a lot more than Natalia ( @touchedbydestiny ) and Katerina ever really did. Partially out of necessity and partially out of desire to save her sisters from the same fate.

It's because of all of this noble sacrifice that Katerina quickly saw Vik as a hero figure. Vik always had the answers. Vik always knew what to do from a lost toy, to a cut, to the boogieman she always sprung into action. Fighting battles her siblings could never comprehend, simply because she shielded them from those fights.

When Katerina became with child, and decided to keep her, her first thought was that she would find Vik. Who else would be better to help Katerina raise Nadia safe, happy, and loved if not the same woman who had protected and cared for her? When Katerina felt lost she always looked for Vik. If there was an answer to be had Vik was there with it. So Katerina had quickly made the plan to seek out her fellow exiled Petrova and do her best to provide the best childhood for her soon to be daughter.

Unfortunately none of that went to plan, and we all know how that worked out for poor Katerina.

Building off that turn of events Katerina's first years in Exile were largely spent with the "What would Vik do if she were here?" mindset.

Don't get me wrong Katerina is brilliant, strategic, and witty all on her own but it was definitely Vik's influences and example that set the ground work for Katerina to become the force of nature that she was.

Speaking of, that hero idolism did not fade through the years. With no other knowledge Katherine assumed her sister was dead, but she thought of her often as the hero that taught her how to survive when the world was hell bent on fucking you over.

Its exactly for this hero worship that finding out Vik had "Abandoned her" for 500 years without reaching out hurt as badly as it did. To find out that her hero had let her go through everything alone cut in a very special way Katherine wasn't ready to deal with. In Viks defense she was not doing nothing, and she had a lot of shit on her own plate and did everything that she could have for her sister without risking discovery and losing her upper hand against Klaus.

Still to Katherine her hero had let her face the wolves alone when they could have been safer together.

This is a mindset that Katherine is working on very slowly. A large part of her knows that Viks choices were not rooted in betrayal, and she's slowly shifting her understanding from the hurt and betrayal to understanding her sister's motivations and pain.

Rebuilding their relationship is a work in progress, a lot has changed, but one thing that hasn't?

Viktorya Petrova is still Katerina Petrova's hero.

An unrelated text was sent off as she walked over to her bike, leaving: Where are you?

Oh a text from Vik. She's back in town. Wonder what the occasion is. It's not like Katherine can really judge her. She also blows in and out of people's lives, the T in petrova stands for tumble weed.

Katherine immediately jumps to her list of sin's for Vik. It's a long list that starts with that time she stole the last christmas treat when they were five and ends with the abandonment for five hundred years.

She could run through them, sure, but Vik knows how she is. Vik knows the choices she's made regardless of the reasoning.

"Between you and Natalia where exactly would you like me to start with my answer? Because out of the three of us I have the disloyal reputation, and I'm the only one of us that hasn't betrayed family. I think at this point it's just which one of you is fighting for first."

As per tradition, Viktorya does not celebrate her own birthday. Reuniting with Katerina has, of course, made ignoring this day an impossible task. To appease them both, she made the executive decision to write a letter to Katerina. Magically, the following letter appears in front of Katerina when she wakes up:

My Dearest Little Fox,

Happy birthday. I am so very proud of your accomplishments. You’re continuing pursuit of love, despite all you have endured. The Petrova name has meaning because of you and your survival. You deserve far more than this, and if you desire we can celebrate your own birth tomorrow. Regardless, there should be strawberries at your doorstep. If not, let me know.

I love you, as I have since this very day many many years ago.

The note is unexpected, after all it's been 500 years since she got any kind of letter from Vik. Fuck you too Daddy Petrova for burning her letters before she ever got them.

But this one seemed extra special. She'd been actively trying to rebuild her relationship with her sister and so for some reason getting the letter it just.... seemed like an accomplishment.

"Hey bitch, if you don't celebrate then it's my birthday and you better take me out to dinner."
