Gathered Skirt in Birds of a Feather, cotton voile, Spring 2017, 2-24, $98

Three original Victorian comic prints which are part of a series of prints - 17 in total - that appeared in Robert Smith Surtees comic novel Handley Cross. The artist is John Leech The book print is taken from a first edition of Handley Cross. The prints are hand coloured and date from 1854. Even after 164 years the colours are crisp and vibrant.

The print is of the BIRDSFOOT TREFOIL flower and would look good framed and displayed.

Lotus corniculatus is a common flowering plant in the pea family Fabaceae, native to grassland in temperate Eurasia and North Africa. Common names include common bird’s-foot trefoil and eggs and bacon.

The print was produced by a method called 'chromolithography’. This was the most successful method of colour printing developed in the 19th century.
