Thoughts will be missed [Victoreen Instrument Company]
Cleveland city officials believe they have turned the corner in the fight against blight, allowing Mayor Frank Jackson’s Safe Routes to School program to set its sights on even bigger projects: blighted commercial and industrial properties.
One of the many industrial powerhouses sitting on Cleveland’s east side, the Victoreen Instrument Company [founded by John Austin Victoreen] manufactured instruments that measured the intensity of X-rays; it contracted with the military and developed a portable device to detect radiation exposure for the Manhattan Project. The company moved and this factory has been closed since the mid 1990′s.
I explored Victoreen in December of 2017. More to come.
