"Boarding plank extended. Brace for impact." A voice said over the comms. Shipman Zake clutched his arc gun tightly in his hand. He stood in the hallway behind piled up cargo crates with nineteen other men awaiting the Imperial boarding team. There was a loud metallic crash and a grinding sound.
"Check capacitor clips!" Shouted the Shipman 1st class. Zake turned his gun and pressed a button on the rectangular clip attached underneath his gun. A green dot appeared and he repositioned his gun.
Sparks burst from the wall as massive vibrating blades cut through the bulkhead. The men took aim at the door taking shape. Zake had heard naught but rumors of the Imperials. On shipboarding actions it was rumored they forsook the use of firearms for spears and shields.
"How far do they expect to get with some pointy sticks?" Shipman Igan had asked in the mess hall. "Shields may help but I'll arc their slagging asses back to the primitive hell they call a homeworld." Zake chuckled at the thought just as the bulkhead slammed to the ground. A few men fired, bolts arcing uselessly against the edge of the opening.
"Hold your fire! Shouted the Shipman 1st class. They could hear heavy boots approaching them through the plank and in an instant they were there. They were clad in heavy suits of mat black armour and wielded tower shields. Their long metal polarms ended in evil mix of a point and a hook and their face guards were leering demonic faces. There was an awkward pause as they spilled out into the hallway.
"Fire!" Shouted the Shipman 1st class. The air was suddenly filled with the smell of spring rain as arcs of electricity found their mark on the advancing troops. The first five, shields up in a wall took the shots with no response. Four boarders rushed out from behind them, two from each side and were upon the Shipmen. Screams echoed amongst the sounds of arc fire. Zake, positioned further back, recoiled in horror as a shipman was stabbed in the shoulder by one of the Imperial boarders. The weapon was activated, the vibrations pulping the flesh and bone, and separated the man's arm from his body. In seconds there were only ten able shipmen remaining and none of the boarders had been felled. Zake thought back to Igan and how completely wrong he had been.
