OMG IT IS HERE AND IT IS PERFECT!
… when you are a GIANT NERD and have some disposable income … you make your vision from your hockey fic come to life. This will be in my grubby little paws in about a month.
Chapter 38:
THE. FUCKING. END. In which Xaden describes the next handful of weeks (and I pray to all the gods that I managed to tie up every loose end). And an epilogue in the notes.
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
Y'all, I can't believe this journey is over. What started as an idea that popped into my brain in May and I started hand writing out in late May ... that turned into writing it that way and on the notes app on my phone ... and me finishing it in early July (except this last chapter which took another week or so despite having started posting it on AO3) ... that turned into this one, last, final upload.
I'm so grateful for everyone that has taken this journey with me, appreciated it, and loved it. I'm not quite ready to let it go yet, which is why the companion piece, agony brings no reward, will be coming on October 1 (Threshing). It's not done by any means, but I'm going to start posting it anyway.
Again, thank you. ❤️
Chapter 35:
Back to Basgiath and the TRUE FINAL OFFICIAL end of hockey season ... and all that might entail ...

"Matthias." Xaden nods at Rhi as she collects her things. She nods back. "Riorson. Did you take good care of my roommate this past week?" "Sure did." He smirks. "She says I'm not allowed to trade with you, but I'm tempted to ask anyway." Rhi scratches her chin, pretending to ponder. "Well, you do have a single which is tempting for a trade. But you moving in with Vi here means you run the risk of being interrupted - often - by Ridoc. He's also not going to want to give up Squad naps and they're so much easier with Violet and I living together ..." "Okay, okay, I concede. Besides, I only try to pick fights I can win, and I know I'm not going to win this one." "You're right. You're not."
We hear the countdown for the new year as we step back inside the ballroom. Ten, nine, eight - I tug us to the corner, behind the pillar, behind the ficus. Five, four, three - I lift our joined hands and bring them up to my mouth, softly kissing the University of Aretia crest tattooed on his wrist as the countdown hits one. “Happy New Year, Xaden.”
Twenty minutes later, I'm regretting the decision to not spend the night with Xaden, despite not feeling comfortable enough in Riorson House to do so, because I still haven't found my way back to my room. The problem is, since this place is enormous, I'm not entirely sure where my room IS. I probably should go back to Xaden's room, but it's 50/50 whether I could retrace my steps, so forward it is. I see light coming from beneath a door. Good, someone's awake and might be able to help me. I knock softly - no answer. I try the handle and it turns, so I open the door a crack and look inside. I ... am not expecting the view. I'm stunned motionless. Someone is definitely awake - three someones, in fact, in Ridoc, Bodhi, and Liam. And they're naked. On the ground.
