Charlie was stuck in Port Angeles when he left Friday afternoon. The weather forecast had warned about possible snow, but no one could have imagined that the almost entire state of Washington would be incapacitated by over twenty inches of snow. Mike had called early in the morning to tell me that the store would be closed, and nothing in town would open, at least not until tomorrow, and that was if they were lucky - especially if the snow stopped.
So I went on my usual weekend routine, I washed the laundry, changed both mine and Charlie’s sheets, and put a frozen quiche pie in the oven while I made some salad. It was odd looking outside the kitchen window and seeing the blanket of snow, I had grown used to the persistent rain and fog that seemed to encapsulate the town ever since I came here. There was a knock at the door, and for a moment I was sure I imagined it, but then it happened again.
Walking down the hallway, I peered through the window and then cracked the door open. “ Jacob? How did you get here? Are you alright? Get in. ” Stepping back I let him walk into the house before closing the door behind him. “ You didn’t walk here did you? ” It wouldn’t surprise me if he did, if I could bet on anyone being brave - or crazy as Charlie would call him - to do something like this, it would be Jacob. “ Come in, get warm. ”
