The toy store was a treasure trove of old, long forgotten childhood joys. He could almost hear it, children’s chirping chuckles seeping through wood and plastic and metals. The owner, a doctor of the kind no one suspected was necessary anymore in the vast lands of fast consumerism, had built a small heaven for those forgotten goods. And in this heaven, the man who was once a king, found himself.
He walked between the shelves, between the little figures standing guard for the person that resurrected them. And finally, he found the figure he was looking for. When he couldn’t catch the shop owner’s attention, he cleared his throat.
“I was told to give you this”, he announced. His hand extended and revealed a white piece of paper, folded neatly. It looked like a ticket, but the inscription on the inside, his name written in red ink, revealed that it was a sign of death.
“I first started to get these ten years ago.” He stopped and looked at the man again. Was it really safe to tell him? “I’m not from here. I’m not talking about place --- time.”
“I’m not from this time.”
