The boys began examining the door. Taking notes, photos, everything that may turn out to be useful in the long run.
‘That was creepy.’ Martha winced. ‘I had no idea that the mayor also was infected.’
‘That disease is spreading pretty quickly.’ Dylan explained. ‘Anyone can have it.’
‘What about his warning, though?’ Max asked. ‘Are we still going to the lab tomorrow?’
‘Of course, we are, brother. Unless... you chicken out.’ Dylan giggled.
‘Pffft! I? Never! We are totally going there.’
‘So this is the mayor’s house.’ Veronica looked around the large building.
‘Yes. Let’s see if anybody’s home.’ Dylan walked up the stairs. The group followed him, keeping a safe distance. The young man knocked on the door.
‘I’m afraid you won’t find anyone in there, son.’ the group nearly jumped as they heard a manly voice somewhere nearby.
They looked to the left and noticed a man, probably in his 40s, playing chess by himself. The man sighed and got up from his seat.
‘My wife, Meredith, left for work. And I’m in here.’ he chuckled. ‘Anyway, who are you? And what to you want?’
The group approached the man, slowly. They were hesitant to trust him.
‘Uh... I’m Dylan. And we want to talk abou the events-’ Dylan wasn’t able to finish his sentence as the man suddenly began grunting.
Dylan watched in horror as the mayor’s body cracked and twisted in weird directions. The man groaned a couple of times and that same crooked smile appeared on his lips. His eyes opened wide, he stared at Dylan with his eyesight blank.
‘Uh... sir?’ Dylan waved his hand.
‘Our MOtheR DresseD IN red... SO beAUTifuL!’ the mayor’s only response made no sense whatsoever.
‘I’m wondering... if I got physical, would that wake him up from his trance?’ Dylan looked at his younger brother but the boy just shrugged.
Dylan decided to try his luck and slap the mayor. But before he managed to get close to his face, the man caught his had and twisted it back in a vary painful way.
There were also some crazy lovers of conspiracy theories in there... Dylan got quite a fright.

‘Hold your horses, boy.’ Veronica chuckled. ‘We’ve got plenty of time to do the research. Let’s enjoy the town today and see what it has to offer. I want to make some nice memories during these vacations.’
‘Ready, guys?’ Dylan stormed into his brother’s motel room with a huge grin. ‘It’s time to go sightseeing?’
‘Time to get to know the town!’ Veronica smiled.
