The wedding feast at Cana, Paolo Veronese, 1562-63
Paolo Veronese (1528 – 1588)
Portrait of a Venetian Woman / La bella Nani ca. 1560 Oil on canvas 119 × 103 cm. Louvre detail
The reserved attitude of the unknown sitter and the ring on her left hand indicate that she is a married woman. The name Nani came from the family that once owned the painting.
It is considered one of the most beautiful female portraits of the 16th century. Veronese rarely portrayed women, only six portraits are known.
