We got two idiots here now...
Kamen Rider Build, Episode 30: The Truth of Pandora’s Box
Hello, and welcome to the Watchathon, a blog where I (try to) watch an episode of TV every weekday, with a blog post where I write down my thoughts afterwards.
And now that the introductions are over with, here’s my thoughts on Episode 30 of Kamen Rider Build:
Pictured: The Queen of Mars, Vernage, whose soul resides in Misora’s bangle.
First things first, we finally get a full explanation of the power in Misora’s bangle with our introduction to Vernage, the queen of Mars, whose soul is trapped within Misora’s bangle. She also serves to explain just what happened on Mars that Misora was seeing when she purified FullBottles, and what Pandora’s Box even is when she says that it was the tool used to annihilate Mars by a being named Evolt.
This is one of those scenes that both solves a few mysteries, as well as raise some new ones. Who is Evolt? What does Vernage mean when she says that Banjou will “become hope”?
Later on, we get a whole scene of bike action with Build riding through Seito on the Machine Builder. I get why it’s rare, visors that have become harder and harder to safely see through, budgetary concerns, and worries from an accident with the very first Kamen Rider that have resulted in no more bike scenes from untransformed Riders.
But, it is much appreciated when we do get these scenes. I mean, this is Kamen Rider, no? It’s always nice to see that Toei hasn’t just forgotten that.
And then there’s Sento’s workaround on how to get into Seito without it being an invasion. The whole scheme with the borrowed dollark from last episode is pretty clever, the kind of plan that really sells the idea that Sento is smarter than the average main Rider.
Then, once he’s in Seito, we get to see the interior of Pandora’s Tower, manipulated to Stalk’s whims. It makes for some pretty unique stuff, like how the Kaisers and two Hard Guardians arrive via the floor turning into blocks which then open up with them inside, or the laser that everyone fighting has to avoid, or Banjou and Sento being shoved around by pillars and beams coming out of the walls and floor.
And we end the episode on the cliffhanger reveal that Banjou isn’t even human...
But that’s not all, folks. There’s one more thing, from near the beginning of this episode that I feel like I just couldn’t possibly skip over:
THEY! KNEW! WHAT! THEY! WERE! DOING! THIS IS THE KIND OF JOKE WHERE EVERYONE INVOLVED KNOWS IT’S BASED IN SOME DEGREE OF TRUTH, THERE IS NOT A SINGLE IOTA OF A CHANCE THAT THE CAST AND CREW OF THIS SHOW DOESN’T REALIZE HOW GAY THEY’VE MADE THESE TWO, AND IN THIS ESSAY I WILL
I’ve been having a bit of an artblock lately so I thought it would be fun to do a quickish redraw!!! I always think it’s really fun to see how I’ve grown whenever I do this!!
