rap is a part of black culture. it is a genre that is dominated by black artists, was created by black artists, and has a complex history formed by the actions of black artists. because of the vilification of black people that’s prevalent in our society and the negative connotations associated with the rap genre, it’s often looked down on and dismissed as “not real music” by people that quite frankly dont know shit. worse than that, its seen as dangerous, uncultured, animalistic, etc. now, none of these stereotypes are correct, but that’s how it’s perceived, due to how deep antiblack racism runs. 

now where lane boy comes in is that tyler is a white passing artist. he is not black. the genre of rap and it’s history is not “His Territory.” the entirety of lane boy is tyler insinuating if not basically saying outright that he believes he’s taking over the genre, changing things up and bringing something new and sophisticated to the table, which he isn’t. and  tyler showing contempt for the genre that he appropriates isn’t okay at all

there’s more examples than just Lane Boy. Look at the bridge to Holding Onto You or the second half of HeavyDirtySoul, for example - he always uses hip hop and rap as the ‘bottom of the barrel’ for comparisons.
