I went to a filipino food/cultural fest with my filipina friend this weekend and tried balut (steamed fertilized duck egg) which was a entertainment hit with both my friends family and with the granny who was at my table who filmed and narrated me eating it 😂 caucasian girl tries balut for the first time

#my friend said i was going to be dinnertime enterainment for several families in the philippines lmao #verdict?#it was okay #i was doing fine until the beak bit got stuck in my tooth and i had to pick it out #then the rest was difficult #it's all psychological #kinda tastes like soup though tbh but the texture is rough #i'm going to #food #tw this lol #in terms of strange eggs i have eaten i like pidan a lot better #im mad though because the pidan i can get at the grocery store taste so much worse than the ones i had in china #like i see why people dont like them now the ones i had just tasted like an egg but worse the flavor was not there #the ones i had in china that my host dad's mom made had like.... i don't know how to describe it like a herbal almost anisey flavor yolk #i was really dissapointed coming home and getting some here it's just not as good #like i know its not rose tinted glasses i was living in china like maybe my host grandma did something special to them but they were so good #i ate them every time i went to her house #i ate like half of one i got from the grocery story and was like :///// ehh
