Tonight, @venusbone (whoâs been a close friend for a decade) said that my current job is the first where sheâs ever heard me âempathize with management,â the first to pierce my âsteely anticapitalist soul.â
And I donât know what to say so I just start shouting and laughing.
And I have to admit that itâs true.
They got to me. The nonprofit industrial complex got to me.
I feel like I need to have a diva tarot study group with @burnallthemaps and @venusbone.
For the ask meme: sun, mercury, mars and gemini? đ
Sun: what makes you feel like you?
Being in my home, especially my bedroom, which is my favorite place in the world. Relaxing with good friends who share similar interests. A brightly colored lipstick. Dolly Parton and other divas. Cuddling cats.
Mercury: whoâs your go-to person when you need to talk?
I have a few close friends who are my go-to people: Sarah (my best friend who Iâve known since I was 16); Jane (who is always there for me and is @venusbone); my feelings committee, consisting of my friends Mej and Amber; and my dear friend Josh!
Mars: When was the last time you got mad and why?
It was actually over this past weekend and Monday. I was in Florida for a work thing where I was the facilitator and logistics person. This basically meant that I was in charge of making sure that people all arrived and that nothing caught on fire and/or melted down. I got really angry a couple of times with a couple of people who we flew in because I felt like they were letting their egos get in the way of other people being able to do their jobs. I hate it when people grandstand and I hate it when people make the jobs of service workers more difficult, both of which happened and infuriated me.
Gemini: are you introverted or extroverted?
Well, I would first like to say that I think that the introvert/extrovert binary is largely made up and doesnât really exist in the real world the way that we like to think that it does. That being said, I like the original meanings of the terms, with extraversion being someone who primarily gets gratification from outside oneself and introversion being someone who primarily gets gratification from oneâs own mental state. I think that I tend more toward ambiversion. I very much get gratification from both within and without. When it comes to the more popular concepts of these terms, I would say that I am an introvert who likes to be around other people.
As I pack, Iâm purging more books during this move than any other by far (thanks to @venusbone for all the encouragement!) and it feels so good.

@venusbone tagged me in this delightful ask meme, so here goes!
1. What is the most frustrating book youâve ever read and why?
Probably either Great Expectations or A Death in the Family. The were both assigned in high school English classes. I finished both books, but they were each so utterly boring and frustrating to read. If thereâs one thing I hate, itâs being forced to read through boring books.
2. What kinds of books do you wish you read more of?
Poetry, religious history, theology, gay novels.
3. Any pet peeves when it comes to books (design or otherwise)?
I HATE books with white covers. For one thing, they get dirty and look gross so very easily. For another thing, I think that they tend to be rather boring.
4. Book that you started out hating and ended up loving?
I was really reluctant to start reading Rancièreâs The Ignorant Schoolmaster. I didnât care for it at first, but by the time I was done, I ended up really liking it and agreeing with a lot of it.
5. Do you have any poems memorized and if so, which ones?
Tragically, I do not. But I do know the lyrics to hundreds, if not thousands, of songs. :)
6. What are you currently reading?
Iâm currently reading some of the essays in Walter Benjaminâs Illuminations. I just finished re-reading Sylvia Federiciâs Caliban and the Witch, which I love. This weekend or early next week I will begin reading Jean Genetâs The Thiefâs Journal.
7. What book(s) has/have been on your bookshelf, unread, for years that you keep meaning to pick up?
I have a copy of Trinh T. Minh-haâs Woman, Native, Other that I picked up at a used book sale years and years ago, and Iâve wanted to read it, but Iâve yet to.
8. Have you ever read everything an author has ever published. If so, who? If not, whose work would you like to read entirely?
I have come incredibly close with Octavia Butler. The only thing of hers that I havenât read is Survivor, which hasnât been republished in several decades and which she personally didnât care for and refused to allow it to be republished.
9. Is there a book that you think is actually not as good as the movie?
Pet Sematary. The movie isnât that great, but I thought the book was stupid as fuck.
10. Best book that youâve ever accidentally stumbled across?
Mind of My Mind by Octavia Butler. I stumbled across it while idly browsing through my high school library and read it and loved it. With it began my deep love of Butler and it still remains one my faves of hers.
11. Favorite chapbook?
Off the top of my head, I really love At This Point in the Game by Tommy Pico aka @heyteebs
Okay, so it appears that part 2 of this ask meme is to create my own list of questions, so Iâll follow the example above and go with a theme:
Favorite piece of clothing/jewelry that you currently own?
Piece of clothing/jewelry youâre currently lusting after?
Piece of clothing/jewelry that you loved at the time, but now regret most?
Favorite place to shop for clothes?
Favorite thrift store?
Designer you love to hate?
Designer you hate to love?
Top 5 current celebrity style icons?
What handbag/purse are you currently using?
What are you wearing at this very moment?
Is there a shade of lipstick you wouldnât be caught dead wearing?
I tag @softtrade, @burnallthemaps, @desdeotromar, @rgr-pop, @runicmaquette, and @residuetheory!
This is for the same old voice ask meme.
@venusbone asked: Tell us, IN DETAIL, about one of your death hills.
This is for a voice ask meme from loooooooooong ago.
@venusbone asked: Talk about something youâre obsessed with/currently interested in.
