â summary: youâre on vacation in seoul with your best friend, but bad luck takes a toll on you
It was finally summer and you had just graduated from high school. You were set to go into your dream college after your summer vacation. Your parents promised you a trip anywhere you wanted to go, as a reward for your hard work. Youâve always wanted to visit South Korea, so your parents paid for your ticket and you decided to bring one of your best friends along who was Korean and able to help you get around and have a good time with.
âY/N! I found your suitcase!â Hyejin yelled from the other side of the airport. You look up excitedly, relieved of stress. You thought youâd never see your suitcase again. You ran up to where she stood with your precious suitcase. Â âThank you! Where was it?â You finally stood in front of her.
âIt was in the wrong place. Itâs okay! At least you have it!â She gave the handle to you and you both make your way out of the airport. âIâve been having such bad luck ever since we got on the plane.â You look down and question your luck.
âThatâs not true!â Hyejin of course being a good friend, tried to comfort you.
âReally? So the four year old that spilled his juice all over me isnât bad luck? Not being able to use the restroom on the plane isnât bad luck?â You provide enough evidence for Hyejin to shut up.
âSo weâre going to take a taxi to the hotel and then we should go visit my grandparents.â Hyejin changed the conversation swiftly. Â âIâm so glad you came - â
You were interrupted by screams which made you and Hyejin turn around quickly. Your first thought was something dangerous, but you were relieved when you saw a swarm of fans surrounding something.
âItâs just an idol. Get used to it, that happens a lot in Seoul.â Hyejin rolls her eyes and continues leading the way out of the airport and you follow.
âI wonder who it thought.â You spoke.
âSeventeen!â The fans chant as if they heard your question.
âThereâs your answer.â She scoffed and waved her hand out for a taxi.
As soon as you and Hyejin arrived at the hotel, you changed into a nicer outfit since you were going to meet Hyejinâs grandparents. You wore a flow sun dress and matching sandals.
âOkay, just in case we get lost and you have no way to contact me, remember we always meet back at the hotel.â Hyejin explained as she put her shoes on. âYes, yes I know.â You felt like Hyejin was your mother.
âYou ready to go?â Hyejin stood up and grabbed her purse. âReady as Iâll ever be.â You grabbed your purse as well and followed Hyejin out of the hotel room.
Hyejin decided to walk and use bus stops to get to her grandparents house so you can see and tour Seoul better. You saw food stands and people smiling. It was a beautiful place, especially with the sun shining on everything, it made you happy. You even forgot about your so-called âbad luckâ.
âI shouldâve used the restroom before we left.â Hyejin stops walking. âItâs okay! Look thereâs a park with porte-potties!â You point ahead. Hyejin nods and walks quickly ahead.
She tells you to wait for her and not to wander too far and you nod. You look around and see people jogging, having picnics, flying kites. It was nice.
You look ahead and see the famous Han River. You wanted a better look and began to walk closer. On your way over you here a voice shout, âWatch out!â You turn back quickly and see a man on a bike speeding towards you. You throw your self out of the way landing on all fours. But that didnât stop the biker from falling as well.
You were wearing your dress so your knees were exposed to the concrete and you were all scrapped up. You groan in pain and immediately rethink your bad luck. You sit on your bottom and examine your scrapes.
You look over to the biker and he was also in pain. âAre you okay? Iâm sorry.â his voice was soft and you werenât expecting him to speak english to fluently. âI think Iâll be okay.â Your skin was freshly exposed to the air and it stung.
âIâm really sorry, I -â He was interrupted by screams and he quickly turned back. A swarm of fans with cameras were about a good mile away. âOh no.â He panicked and stood up quickly.
You were confused and looked up at him. âHop on.â He said quickly. âWhat?â You asked. You didnât even know who he was, how were you supposed to hop on his bike. âUnless you want to stay here and be questioned by a ton of girls, I suggest you hop on.â he swung his leg over his bike and waited for a response.
Like an obedient person, you followed his directions and hopped on the bike. He quickly pedaled through the park and you looked back to see the girls get further and further.
Thatâs when you remember Hyejin. She would worry so much if she couldnât find you. âWait! Where are we going? I have someone waiting for me!â You shout so he could hear you over the loud city, but he didnât respond.
he eventually stopped in a wide alley and he was breathing heavily. âIâm sorry I had to take you.â He gets off the bike and waits for you to get off before letting it go. âI would feel bad if I left you there injured. And then all the carats would stop you and ask you questions and maybe even assault you.â He spoke between breaths as he was still trying to catch his breath.
You were no longer angry, understanding his kind intentions, but you were confused. âCarats?â
He met your eyes and laughed to himself. âMy name is Joshua, and Iâm in a - â He paused and looked at you. He studied your features and looked so mesmerized. âYouâre in a ?â You waited for him to continue.
âIâm in a boy group known as Seventeen. Since youâre a foreigner, I trust that you wouldnât know anything about k-pop, but I could be wrong, we have a lot of international fans.â He explained and it all made sense to you.
âSo those carats are the fans? I mean, the fans are carats? Like the vegetable?â You laugh and he joined you. âNo, but letâs get you inside and cleaned up, I feel really bad.â He walks towards the only door in the alley and you follow. âThis is where you live? An idol like you lives here?â You follow him inside and you see all the stairs you have to walk. âDonât worry, thereâs an elevator.â Joshua points over to the corner, and youâre relieved.
âAnd yes, I live here with my friends.â He answers late as the elevator doors close.
You dig into your purse and look for your phone to call Hyejin. However, the deeper you search, you canât feel your phone at all. You begin to panic and Joshua looks over. âWhatâs wrong?â
âI canât find my phone.â You look in your purse and find nothing. âI think I dropped it when I fell.â You lean back on the elevator wall and take a deep breath. âI really am cursed with bad luck. Ever since I got here in Seoul, nothing but bad luck.â You rub your temples and Joshua just giggles silently to himself.
âItâs not funny! Iâm serious!â You whine.
âIâll let you use my phone.â Joshua says after he laughs. The elevator doors open and it reveals a big loft. You see a bunch of boys running around and shouting. Once they look over they all freeze.
âJoshua brought a girl!â One of them shouts.
âIâm sorry, theyâre always like this.â He sighs and takes your hand which surprises you. He leads you into the loft and into the bathroom. âWait here while I get the first aid kit.â He walks out leaving the door open and you sit on the toilet seat.
You look at your scrapes, you had forgotten all about them. You were too busy thinking about Joshua. He was so sweet and so kind. You were lucky he spoke English because if he didnât, youâd be struggling.
You hear a knock and look up to see an unfamiliar face. âSo youâre the lucky girl Joshua brought home huh?â Your cheeks flush because this stranger was just as handsome as Joshua.
âIâm Hansol by the way, but they call me Vernon.â He smiles and you introduce yourself as well. Soon enough, more boys come behind Vernon and take peeks at you.
âGuys! Leave her alone!â You hear Joshuaâs voice come and youâre somewhat happy to hear a familiar voice. The boys clear out and reveal Joshua with the first aid kit. âAgain, I apologize for them. Theyâre very extra.â He closes the door behind him and opens the kit.
âSo why are you in Seoul?â He bends down to your level as he opens the kit. âI just graduated high school and it was a reward to travel.â You explain and Joshua nods understandingly.
âIâm sorry you have to go through this when youâre supposed to be on vacation.â He says softly as he disinfects your scrapes. âDonât worry about it, itâs not a bad thing meeting you.â You said subconsciously. Your words caused both you and Joshua to blush and he puts a band aid on both knees.
âHereâs my phone, you can call whoever you needed to.â Joshua kindly lets you use his phone and leaves you in the bathroom alone for privacy.
You dial Hyejinâs number and she doesnât pick up. She probably didnât recognize Joshuaâs number and didnât answer. You sigh loudly not knowing what to do.
You walk out of the bathroom to find Joshua and return his phone. You see Joshua leaning against the counter and laughing with his friends and he looked so attractive. His smile made the whole room brighter than it already was.
âDid they answer?â Joshua notices your presence and walks up to you. âNo, but Iâll just go back to the hotel and wait for her there.â You give Joshua his phone back.
âAnyways, thanks for everything, it was nice meeting you all.â You smile and walk back to the elevator. âDo you know your way around Seoul to make it to the hotel?â Joshua calls after you and you stop in your tracks.
You thought itâd be easy as pie to go back to the hotel without trouble, but you forgot you were in Seoul. You werenât in your home country where everything was easy.
âWouldnât it be burden if you helped me? I donât want to ask too much.â You spoke honestly. Â
âI donât mind! Itâs the least I can do for knocking you over.â Joshua joined you in the wait for the elevator to open. âThank you Joshua.â You smiled warmly and he returned the gesture.
When Joshuaâs friends bid you both goodbye, you walk into the elevator. Having Joshua next to you was comforting and it was crazy to think that after youâve only known him for two hours.
âYou know Iâm not taking you to the hotel right?â Joshua spoke. âHmm?â
âSince you said youâve had so much bad luck, Iâm going to show you a good time in Seoul.â Â
