🎃 Write something featuring one of your OCs and mysterious whispering they hear in the dark. For an extra challenge, make it take place in a library or an old castle 🎃
(A snippet from Apex Tempest, just for you!)When Velvera was told she’d be given her own lab, this is not quite what she expected.
After she managed to pry off the rusted chain, the door only took a gentle push to give way; it moaned in protest before falling silent, light flittering through and illuminating newly-stirred particles of dust. As she stepped through, she watched her shadow pass over monolithic cases of books and jars, each with its own fine layer of dust and webs.
And lichen. And feathers, and coin-sized footprints mottling the dark wood and leather covers of the tomes.
She passed a hand over a table amidst the shelves, feeling it soft with lush moss and button-like blossoms.
Velvera made a swift motion towards the door, closing it behind her; as she expected, thick darkness filled the room.
She spun her head around, facing a voice that seemed to whisper from the far end of the room. Blindly, curiosity drawing her over like a toy on a string, she passed through the laboratory, feeling her way around an array of glassware and tools. Soon, her hands found no purchase – just inky darkness in all directions.
Just as the words left her lips, a sound jolted her onto her toes; wingbeats, the melodic sound of metal rings on metal rod as a curtain was pulled open. Like water through a faucet, it poured onto her and the far wall, her silhouette casting a shadow onto what appeared to be a glass display case. Grass, moss, verdant leaves and blossoms seemed to have crawled desperately out from inside its confines, spilling out into the lab from the thin gap between its doors and its frame. Squinting, she could see ants squeeze their way through, carrying seeds in their tweezer-like vice grip. She could barely see through the glass – it was coated in greenery, like an aquarium left unchecked.
The fluttering returned – now she could see the black pigeon drift down from the curtain rod, the light reflecting off its iridescent feathers. It perched itself atop it, head tilted in her direction. Just as its gray feet met the wood, the door drifted open, revealing a pristine red cloak.
“I think it would suit you – don’t you agree?”
